      vlim:
 errrrr.......thats sound frightening...... for the 1st two term of p4, my son and I did feel quite stressful as there was this family tree project to submit and also he was not used to the gep and new school. But from third term on wards, it seems that he can manage pretty well ... hope next year he can cope well too ... otherwise not only he will feel stress, I will also suffer... let us hope for the best πŸ™

Not necessary to go if you feel the child is not ready. Mine didn't go to any oversea exchange programme, neither does my niece. Don't think will miss out anything if choose not to go.

Actually, china exchange programme is common nowadays in a lot of primary schools and not just GEP centres. They may be subsided depending on family income. Is it free for GEP students?

My friend let her DD1 join and throughout the trip she got so worred ...

My child did not join the Bejing trip with the school at P5 cos we went for the trip (places of visit almost the same and school visit) the year before during school vacation. Is was so much cheaper, child fare $399 compared to joining school at $1200+

              MdmKS:
Glad that my child did not get depressed after 2nd round. He said many people also didnt get in. He now landed in one of top IP sch too and happily going to school everyday. With him, my second child feel Ok for not clearing the 2nd round. It might have negative impact to him though if his brother got in and he didnt. The principal gave out the offer to those who got in in front of the entire P3 at that time and get them to clap for them and congradulate them. :x

Gd for your kids, then πŸ˜„

Would like some btdt experience. Are GEP kids less rowdy? I have a very small sized son who has been a bully target in the past and is apprehensive. TIA.

Dear MdmKS, jus curious, if ur son was the selected one and had the whole school clapping and congratulating him, wouldn't he or you be pleased? No ill intentions intended but dun think there's anything really wrong in the principle's good intentions even though I, in my humble opinion, agree that the whole GEP thingy is overrated......

I'm not too sure where to ask this question, but since this is about GEP I shall ask it here:

What is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_Blackmore_Class like? Is it very similar to the GEP? 'Cos I got into SBC Sec 1 by DSA. All I have to do is get 200+.

I think you are talking about boys. There is no different between GEP and mainstream kids. Boys are boys and most of them are very playful at this age. I would not say that they are rough or rude or anything. One big difference is that they like to argue among themselves, even in class. GEP classrooms are never quiet as they like to ask a lot of questions, then argue a lot. πŸ˜„

I think the same thing happens in a lot of schools when it comes to release of PSLE result right? The teacher will announce the top 3 or 5 students in that school and the students will go up to the stage and receive the result. All the students sitting on the floor will clap for them and congradulate them. Agree?
Please don't be so sensitive when it comes to GEP. I thought we were teaching our kids to have better sportmanship - congradulate those who did better. I hope everyone in this forum can be more fair to GEP students, not all of them are trained or drilled to get into GEP. :celebrate:
