Chinese Assessment Books
-
Hi,
Would like to check with experienced parents here, for children who are taking HCL, is there a need to buy separate guidebooks and assessment books for CL and HCL separately since they will be taking 2 separate papers?whywhy:
Hi whywhy,完成对话 not in my son exam paper this year. am confused coz I was told not to buy old edition before 2011. There is a change of format from this year p4 cohort. Can anyone who know confirm. 谢谢。
Which standard is your son in? 完成对话is not in my son's P4 exam paper this year too. However, in ds school briefing on HCL and CL for P5, I saw this section being flashed out during the teacher's presentation when she went through the paper format. -
I thot the change in examination format for Chinese will implement only in 2017 PSLE? So the next P1 batch onwards will be affected.
Are there changes? TIA -
Hi usaik,
HCL is tougher than the normal Chinese. For HCL, there is separate compo and language paper. I feel that it’s better to get HCL assessment books instead of the normal Standard Chinese. If the child can handle tougher assessment book, then the standard CL is not an issue. -
My son is in P5 this year. All CL exams this year follows the PSLE format which was effected since 2010:

See page 3.
Last year ie P4, his SA2 exams also did not have 完成对话. All parents were called to school for briefing of the P4 SA2 exam format. School said it was a directive from MOE but no concrete reason or explanations were given.
My own guess is that it is related to the subject level banding which is based on P4 results.
Whatever it is, 完成对话 will be in PSLE, as of now. -

Thanks for your post and the link; appreciates much! :grphug:
My DD1 P3 SA2 exam has this 完成对话 component and she was all the while rather weak in this area
So, mummy has planned to start tackling this area in the coming holidays

Hi Champion,
完成对话 is a little trickier than wan2 cheng2 ju4 zi3.
For 完成对话, the trick according to son’s CL teacher is NOT to tick/strike off what the child thinks is the answer. Because the option chosen earlier could be the actual answer. Once the child strikes it off, the whole thing will go wrong. -

Note sure what level your kid is in, but for lower to mid pri, you can get the HCL assessment books only and rely on it for CL. However, for upper pri, you have to get separate assessment books for HCL and CL as the format for HCL is very different from CL. HCL paper 2 has fewer sections and more emphasis on \"editing\" and \"comprehension\", and total paper mark for paper 2 is only 60.

Thought HCL will cover every aspect.
