It's based on situation

If addressing ur peers then use 你 but if elders, boss, customers, pple whom u accord respect or need to be more courteous like customer service, then use 您. When I write cards to my kids' teachers I will use 您.

Champion has given herself a PERFECT nick ...she is indeed champion of assessment books.

For Higher Chinese, it is slightly different than Standard Chinese.
Assessment books are a little tougher too, esp Comprehension. Daughter's school offers HCL at P2 based on overall results for whole year...I don't dare to dream of her doing HCL. If she can do well for normal CL, I will be more than grateful and relieved.

Is she married with kids ? BTW, some married women with kids can be completely hands-off with their kids...leaving all headaches to their husbands.

I have no choice. Her school is SAP. So die die must take HCL.

Yes. I know exactly what you mean.
My son had to take HCL when we registered him in Pei Hwa. It was tough initially...esp the HCL comprehension. At the end of P4, when his teacher recommended he take standard Chinese, we were relieved.

Hi dear parents,


I know the differences between Chinese & higher Chinese. May I check is it necessary to purchase the chinese assessments that are meant for 高级华文? Some publishers don’t have that, they only have the standard chinese ones… My girl is gg to be in P2 next year.

It is good to emphasis on the usage of '你' and '您'. The latter denotes a form of respect given to the person, so it is part of basic manners to teach our kids the right form.

My son is turning 5 soon and I've tried to explain the concept of using the right word. He can understand and remember it, but needs constant reminders.

Good to start from young. I have parents from China who complain about our local kids lacking manners when our kids speak to them with '你' '你' '你' .
