my Filo maid who was with us for 5 yrs plus, she's now getting $480 and will have 2 months \"bonus\" when she complete her 6 yrs with us. The last 2 times she went back for home leave, we give about $150-$200 hongbao. Recently, I happen to talk about maid salary with a group of friends, and came to realise my maid is getting much more than my friends' maid. Her work is not much also compared to theirs, and can sleep at 10pm, wake up 6.30am.

i suggest don't compare with how your friends treated their maids. If you read MOM website, MOM strongly encourage 8hrs of sleep time. Plus, not many people can go into deep sleep immediately after they lay down on their bed. 10pm to 6.30am, 8 and 1/2hrs is good and fair. I am sure they are employers who treated their maid (in terms of salary, bonus and resting time) better than you <--no offence. :imsorry:

Think will be good for employers to read up MOM website re: employing a maid and managing expectation.

Cannot just compare base on salary alone.5 yrs ago I believe your filo maid's salary was low as compared to now ($400 - $450). My filo maid's starting salary was $380 about 2 yrs back. I made an adjustment and her salary is now $480. Her contract is expiring soon and if she continues then her salary will definnitely be more than $500.

With the stupid announcement coming soon at the end of the year by MOM on the day-off(s) (and its compensation) I believe our maid's salary will easily shoot above $500

Salary increase/adjustment depends on the current market salary, difficulty level of the job, the amount of job to be done and, of course, her performance too.

Day-off(s), compensation in lieu of day-off(s), English language entry test, employer's responsibility for maid's day-off(s) even though they (MOM) mandates it etc anything that don't affect their bottomline and not relating to them but yours

Ex-Dubai Filipino maid with 3 years experience (1st time in SG), asking for $450 with one day off - is that reasonable?

              Thanks

I think it's reasonable considering the starting salary of new FILO maid now is between $400 - $450. You don't want your experienced maid's salary to be less than that of the new maid in the neighbourhood, right?

Eh? Since When were we allow to negotiate salary when we get maids from agent? It’s the agent here and the agent in indonesia that decide on the salary. If one day they increase the salary to $600 for new maid, there is nothing we can do about it.

If the maid's starting salary reaches $600 then it'll be the same as HK. You'll get an experienced maid then.

We are paying more than $600 liao. :rahrah:

                        $450 + $170 levy (subsidise) = $620

                        $450 + $265 levy (w/o subsidise) = $715
