GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection
I was told 20 from ACSJ so with ACSP maybe most the places would be taken up by them.
I checked with the teacher at the booth on sat, they have about 20 from the 2 schs. So should have 1 more class for others if none of their boys left to join others.
There are only 2 GEP classes in ACS, so if the affiliated students take up 40 places, there would only be about 10 places left for other students. -
Hmmm... For some reason, nyps has always been extremely popular for geppers, even more so for this year.....e few parents that I spoke to all indicate nyps as their first choice. Is it coz of e sch reputation or perhaps better facilities? :scratchhead:

I think most of the places would have gone to their own students from the 2 schools (heard about 20+ from one so assuming similar number of kids from the other school that would be around 40+ for both). :scratchhead:
Lol. I selected a GEP non-SAP school closest to my home at Toa Payoh but they said by will give place to affiliated schools, mission schools and then \"others\". Felt v slighted at their booth by the teacher we spoke to. Almost wanted to change the order of choice on our DS's form but we respect his decision.
So my question is- how would MOE consider placement of the child in such a scenario? Is it MOE or the school that has the final say?

I don't think the facilities are better at NYPS. Some parents choose NYPS bec it gives the younger siblings a chance to get into the school. -

No need to fight for the seats at 2B phases onwards.Flowermama11:

Hi sleepy, Congrats to your DS/DD for making it to GEP.. It is indeed a great achievement and you should be very proud of him/her!firefly38:
10 classes also not enough?! Do you really think that parents staying in the extreme north, east & west of Spore will send their kids to NYPS for its GEP? If they really do that, I wonder if they are more concerned of the well-being of their kids, or of their academic results (just imagine the travelling their poor kids must go through everyday!).
I think this 'GEP @NYPS is better than GEP @other GEP schools' thingy is highly over-rated! I believe all GEP schools are equally good, or else they will not be selected as GEP centers by MOE, right?
This is the impression I gathered from reading this thread le.
And personally also know of parents who opt for nanyang despites the great distance, although I am not sure whether they will get their first choice or not since posting result is not out yet
Agreed with you on the distance. I opt for the nearest possible.
3 years is a long period of time to travel across island, weathering the traffic jam everyday. Just imagining the long drive & waking up earlier I already feel very sleepy :rotflmao:
However, I must say I do 佩ę other parents' determination & perseverance if they are willing to do that.
You are right, this is indeed the impression i get from reading this thread. Some parents want to give the BEST things (in their opinions) to their kids, but, in the end, they may do more harm than good, to their kids.
All GEP students go through the same programme (from assignments to projects, to exams), so it depends on the child himself/herself to benefit from the programme, regardless which school he/she is in, as ALL GEP schools are equally good (in my opinion).
Even if it is true that one GEP school is really the 'best' among all, so what?! As we always tell DS.. \"in life, not necessarily everything must get the BEST, must give others a chance mah\"...

We were told at the briefing last Sat, P1&P2 will be at a different site at Toh Tuck (think from next year??) If parents are thinking of putting their younger one into NY within a year or two, have to take this into consideration -

2 yrs back, my cousin residing in hougang put NY as their only choice, but her dd was posted to Rosyth instead. They wrote in wif a good reason to appeal n was put under waiting list. They were informed only few days b4 school reopened abt their successful application. The waiting was a torturing one!
Last year's top PSLE student (in fact, all top 3) from Rosyth...
