Q&A - PSLE Math

I disagree. Maybe it's just me, but I disagree. Because of this, I like math even more. Maybe it's just that I'm strange or something, but I have always enjoyed doing hard questions.gifted_indian:
Indeed. Think too hard under a short time. Do you how many P6 kids had sacrificed their social and quality learning time this year, for MONTHS (some even YEARS), just to realise that their PSLE consists of a bunch of unrealistically set questions?
Yes, I say unrealistic since even most of the GEP kids could not even confirm their answer for the last 4 questions. I mean, up till now, have you heard of any parent or student who have said \"I can confidently score Paper 2 this time\" ?
If you haven't, then I think the setters have gone too far beyond what even the smartest brainiest 12-year-old kid in SG can go. Not a fair test I say.
I won't be surprised if some of our maths whizzes would stop pursuing their interest in the subject altogether after this paper. Have the authorities even thought of it? Is assessment, not interest, the number one thing on everyone's minds in SG?
That is absolutely true ! I fully agreed. -

I also like maths. You are not a strange one. I also enjoy doing difficult questions. I do not think this paper is as difficult as many people says. My school maths teacher taught me all of the methods used in this paper. -

Don't feel bad about yourselves just because you thought the paper was hard or that your confidence has gone for a toss after this paper. Many students feel that way. Just focus on the challenges ahead (PSLE Science paper!) and you'll do fine. Good luck for tomorrow's paper everyone! -

WOW !! I got this right !!
So take the total distance to be 2 units.N3SKiasu:
The Speed question (if my DD remembered correctly):
Mei and Lin take part in a cycling race.
Mei's speed is 20km/h. When Lin travelled half of the distance, Mei was 3.5km in front of her.
Mei reached finishing line at 10.45am.
What time did Lin reach the finishing line?
Similar feedback - paper was tough, finished all but not a lot of time left to check through. Anyway, its over now, just move on and focus on next few papers.
When Mei travels 1 unit + 3.5km, lim would have travelled 1 unit.
When Mei travels 2 units + 7km, lim would have travelled 2 units. (just finished the race).
So Mei needs to overshot by 7km.
Time = Distance/Speed = 7/20 hours = 7/20 x 60 = 21 minutes.
Lim needs to run 21 mins more.
10.45 + 16 mins = 11.06am
And ii always thought that i did this question wrongly .. XDXD
Im so happy !!!!! -

Hi,
The answer is 100 minutes.
After seeing this question at a website, I have come up with the working:
From 2.00 to 4.30, it is 150 minutes/2.5 hours
So, 150 minutes divided by 6 (number of boys) = 25 minutes
25 minutes X 4 (number of boys playing at any 1 time) = 100 minutes
Hope I helped!

Thanks. I found it a bit difficult, the last question, but I felt it was quite fun doing it.Hi guys,

And yes, I think we should concentrate on our Science and not brood over something we cannot change. It is partially like the saying: \"Let bygones be bygones\".

The answer for last question is 68, a boy told me, and the working he had done was using ratios. And most people did put 68, so I'm sure that is the correct answer.
GOOD LUCK FOR SCIENCE PAPER TODAY!

This year PSLE math is like a compettion between the setters and the P6 students.
Even an adult take more than 10mins to solve some of the questions.
you win, setters.
A* goes to you.
