You're right! My son is really strong in Science without any tuition and i always tell him that he must be proud of himself. We cannot keep discussing about their weak subjects but also have to compliment them when they are good in other areas apart from studies.
Many parents tend to overlook their kids' strong points....

yes, I agree with you. My girl is also very weak in maths. I think she only gets 1- 2 questions correct. But she has her strong points too -- she is an obedient girl and good in chinese, of course not as good as those PRCs. -

Hmmmm - I am not sure I agree with you Mrs Low. Many students' concepts are clear and they would be able to handle these very sums if they just had more time. We have to look at the entire PSLE paper and not just these few questions we are discussing and under exam conditions.
It is very easy as an adult to expect perfection in all that's done, but i wonder if we remember these kids are just 11 or 12. This is an age to develop a love for the subject and kindle a passion for something they wld like to pursue later in life. And sorry scholars can bloom any time, if they are given the time and support to pursue their passion. Did you read abt the latest Nobel Prize winners ? Nothing close to the kind of scholars you are referring to ....
Sorry if i sound too strong, but truly there needs to b a mind set change ...
no worry harini. I already mentioned its my opinion... its ok if think likewise... true enough they are only 11-12 yrs old but in reality the questions are set to put them in a spot now... so now and even every year it will be the same situation... and I personally also agree that the questions are getthing difficult each year...and by looking at the trend I also have to start my child with different format of learning for Maths.

Hope this won't affect her chance of going to her dream school....

As parents, can we say we know best how to teach our child or guide them proper in their studies? in manners YES... in studies...its very subjective...

The geometry ans is 150 degree. and the last question is 68.My DH said she had only 5 mins to check Paper 2. 3 tricky/challenge questions - geometry (ans 150 deg?), last question (ans 68 or 46?) and speed question. She was very disappointed and said 3 of her classmates cried. I told her we recognize her hardwork and effort and that's all that matters to us. It's time to move on and concentrate on Chinese and Science.
She managed to draw the geometry question for me and wrote down from memory the 2 challenging questions. Even her jie jie in sec 2 was stumped by the questions :? -
