Agreed! Sometimes not getting in might be a happier ending for some.. I m pretty surprised that many of those that got thru r not top students in their school... In lower primary, some of the kids who top the school aren't necessarily the brightest. They're very very hardworking. In lower primary you can do very well if you work hard. These are not the ones who'll make it to GEP. Then there are those who are very intelligent but may not work as hard or have not found the secret to exam-smarts, so they don't score as well at exams. And some of these do make it to GEP bec they are high IQ.

I agree. Rote learning exam smarts & being gifted are two diff things. Gifted kids don't intentionally work to be gifted. They are born with those characteristics and quirks. But to succeed in the world, they also need to be disciplined, determined, focused and be people of integrity... Not just be brainy or bright.

Same here, my son is also a surprise case as he is not even top 15% in his level. But his teacher encourages him to go for it as it would enrich his learning. According to his teacher among the selected ones, quite a few actually went for GEP training. My thinking is like GEP is for the rich who can send their kids for GEP training?!?

depends on what u mean by 'suffer'. If he is just an above average student based on P1~3, what is your expectation for PSLE?

Well it could be that the ones who went for training already had some gifted qualities in them and they could possibly have made it through without any training. But we'll never know now. And neither will they. :evil:

They'll also have to spend a lot more money at various tuitions to keep up with the GEP curriculum which they spent so much money to get into. :skeptical:

GEP students don't always perform to expectations at PSLE. One reason is bec of the late preparations, where they only start preparing them in P6 Term 3 whereas mainstreamers are drilled for PSLE from P5. Another reason is bec many of them have already secured DSA COs and take it easier in their PSLE preps.

But the GEP journey does not have PSLE as its goal. The aim of GEP is to train the mind and to maximise the potential of these students. And you'll see the benefits of this training in secondary school, where critical thinking skills are far more important than rote learning.

Well, coz everyone gave them the 'top 1%' label from day-1, so almost everyone expected them to get at least 260ish.

At the end of the day, PSLE T-scores are just numbers. When you get to secondary school, nobody cares about those 3 digits anymore. Everyone starts from a brand new slate.

exactly!! but coz our S1 streaming is such a BIG deal, everyone thinks otherwise!!!

But then again, the 3-digit numbers also determines whether u will get the scholarship, 3rd lang and dunno what else....
