I think it does not really matter which kindy. Parent involvement is most important, read to the kid when they are young to cultivate reading habit.
Totally agree. Encourage a sense of adventure and good read habits. All my dds attended/are attending the nearest church kindy. It's not the best but good enough for them to learn social skills and pick up good values. 😄

Compared with us mainstreamers, your dd is already 高高在上. 😉
I agree with Mark. To be selected into GEP last year proved she does have her capability and ability. Don't compare, there is no end. 😄

For those who need to buy English story book recommended in the book list, you may want to check out popular. I bought the P5 English story book there and even at list price, it is about 4% lower than the school bookshop. If you are a pop member, there is another additional 20% off with the POP club voucher.

Couldn't get that story book (A Wrinkle In Time) tis year from school. Called several Popular outlets...finally got it from Clementi Mall.

A Wrinkle in Time is the first book of the Time Quartet. A recommended buy. My set is yellowed with age but my dd enjoys reading it. It should be available in MPH or Kinokuniya. Kino’s having 20% promotion. I think today’s last day.

              It's a must-have book for P5.
Supposed to be avail mid Jan but wasn't. Fortunately managed to get it from Popular. Thanks for mentioning MPH and Kinokuniya...now I know who to call if I need to buy such hard-to-find titles again.

Thanks Janet, this info. is timely as I was also thinking of where to find this book. Hope that Clementi Mall still has stocks.

                    Thanks Madragon for clarifying.

I also agree with you all about the importance of teaching kids that "worthiness" should not be judged by one’s academic performance.

I am only trying to put myself in the shoes of these kids, if there were misinterpretation of the ranking system in school, how they may be affected by the eyes and remarks of some ignorant students.
It will be good if the kid is open with the parents about their feelings, but imagine if the kid is introvert and does not share their feelings, suffering alone… I can only hope that there are no sacrificial lambs in such system…

The fact is, we lived in a competitive society. And the school - in an indirect way - is a reflection of society. Ultimately, it's up to us parents to teach our kids that their worthiness in life is not measured by how well they do in exams. Who's to say that just because so-and-so is in the bottom strata, he will not make it in life? This only happens if we as parents allow our children to think this way, which is very wrong.

A child with very average results but with an abundance of confidence will do better in life than a child with good results but always worried about failing. This, I've no doubt.
                      Well said, Mark! :goodpost:

I would also like to highlight that different kids 开窍 at different pace. Take DD for example. She wasn't as good when she first entered Pri 1, but now, she has made a quantum leap and progressed on to top 20 position in standard (based on our findings). So parents, don't despair and don't give up if your kids have not 开窍. 继续加油!!!
