I suppose St hilda should do something about their PV system. They were accepting too many PV (more than the seat they can offer) and over promising the parents during my year. In the end, a lot of parents who live > 2k got disappointed.

That's why I chose to do PV for Poi Ching. Although nobody will promise you anything, at least from the past year record, as long as you are pv, the seat is almost guaranteed.

      Hi amlqf,

I think that is why the St Hilda's is reviewing and improving their PV system over the years. This year only 31 PVs are selected. This will help to avoid the situation of 'over supply' PVs and disappointing them.

Selection of PV is done by the school's PSG Chairman. I am not sure what exactly is the selection criteria but there are several rounds:

          1. Round 1 (Shortlisting) - this is purely based on the application letter. So it is better that you indicate in your letter what you can contribute to the school.

          2. Round 2 (Briefing) - usually all the shortlisted PVs will be briefed of the requirements, expectations etc. The purpose is to ensure that PVs are aware and will be committed to provide their volunteery service once being selected. Those who cannot commit may drop out at this stage

          3. Round 3 (Interview) - PVs who wants to stay on after Round 2, may be called for Interview by the PSG. This is the last chance for you to explain in details how u can contribute to the school.

          4. Round 4 (Recruitment) - PVs have been selected and invited to attend and welcome briefing by the school's Principal. You will also be asked to sign the confirmation letter as a PV.

Usually chances are given to PV staying >1km, because this is the only chance for them to come close to registering in SHPS, because in Phase 2C, even those within 1km MUST ballot. But, if you are >1km, there is no gaurantee if you PV, because it will depend on the number of grassroots and Church affliations in phase 2B.

Therefore you should be aware of your chances, execute your plan, and also have other backup plans in case Plan A did not work out.

          Good luck!

MdmQ, I think yours qualify as the most comprehensive and in-depth report on the PV selection process of ANY school. Kudos to you and thank you for sharing!

hi all, i'm a new kiasu parent here.. though my ger is only going p1 2 years later.. my wife & i are already planning now.. 😄

i'm an ex-student of poi ching primary (p1-p4) & gong shang primary (p5-p6), therefore thinking of getting my ger into one of my ex-schools..

                my questions are..

                1. must i be a graduate (p1-p6) from the school to apply for phase 2a2? or not counted at all?

                2. can i join my ex-school's alumni to apply for phase 2a1?

                3. are places guarenteed for phase 2a2 or 2a1?

                4. does distance matter in this case (2a2, 2a1)? cos we are currently staying in sengkang..

                thanks in advance!

                mt

Any advise which school I should opt for PV. Boy borned in 2005

Only school within 1km - East Spring. Not in favour though distance is near, transport is difficult coz we are separated by the PIE.

So my preferred ‘eastern’ choices are as follow (all more than 2km) :
                  1. Temasek Pri
                  2. Poi Ching
                  3. Gong Shang
                  4. Chongzheng
                  5. St Hilda’s (drop coz beyond reach)

btw, which of the above school accepts clan/church endorsement?

Or should we move to the west … where my husband is old boy of Pei Hua Presbyterian.

Hi to everyone, I am new to this forum. My son is born in march 2007 and currently I am staying at yishun. I will be moving to Tampines st 12 (S’pore 521157) next year March. I have did some research and paid on the SLA and found that St Hilda’s , Gongshang and Chongzheng primary sch are all less than 1km from my new home . Poi Ching primary is 1-2km from my home.

I need advice that do I still need to become a Parent Volunteers (PV) for school I interested inorder to have a chance in the phase 2B ?

I wanted St hilda’s primary but hear that its hard to become PV of that school. Am I too early to ask this question now as my son is born in 2007 ? Pls give advice. Thank you very much for reading.
