Thanks jtoh. You have a good memory - yes, we were concerned as he had major issue with focus. But the last 3 weeks before PSLE he really put his head down and tried so hard to focus - it made us very proud. We had told him he was a winner no matter the score - but the score has now vindicated his effort. We are over the moon.

:congrats: and well done to his great efforts. Barring other perosnal preferences, if he can qualify for VS IP, should give it a go. Ultimate landing is VJC which is an established JC. Please be aware that the COP for VS will go up due to IP status. It has IP and O level tracks. VS IP COP expected to be pretty high due to limited places. So past COP for VS not a good reference. Also, if he has some special areas that needs attention, do find out if VS or SJI is a more comfortable and supportive school.

My dd got 263+2. She got A for chinese and 3A* for the other subjects. She wants to go RGS with her friends but I prefer NYGH as it is nearer. Her score will be in the average range in NYGH but below average in RGS. I am worried that even if she can get into RGS, she will be given low priority treatment in RGS.
My preference: NYGH, RGS, NJC
Her preference: RGS, NYGH, NJC

:congrats: to you and DD. Her score will be around slightly above average in NYGH. NYGH is same category as MGS, SCGS ie it accepts affiliated girls who meet min score, in its case 250. So the lowest scorer in NYGH could be around 247+3 and thus your DD 263+2 is considered pretty good PSLE score there. Given its affiliation commitments, allocated places for S1 posting are limited thus explaining its seemingly high S1 public COP. On the other hand, RGS has no affiliation at all. So, its last scorer is 260 (2010) and no bonus given for HMT. So yes, in fact your DD is considered below average PSLE score in RGS. However PSLE scores have no direct correlation to Sec school performance. Secondary school is a different story, it's a fresh new page. Both schools are great with own merits and you can visit other relevant threads in this forum to find out their differences. It's a personal choice. Don't forget that she has to be happy with a secondary school she's studying for next few years and types of friends there. If you live near NYGH, RGS can't be that far for you :evil:

Thank you. Looks like there will be lots of discussion and analysis of the two schools before we decide on the options. The best school for our kid need not be the highest COP or the most prestigious. As long as our kid is happy, does well in her studies and enjoys her secondary school days

Thank God for my son's result - 267.

May I ask if want to go IP can this result get any grant from the Govt? Cos I found out very expensive.

If you are Singaporeans, then your son should have been offered the EESIS for IP schools. Then the fees is the same as any secondary school.

Yes, sorry, my DH scolded me for not opening the perforated S1 form. Yes indeed my son qualifies for the EESIS for IP. So this amt is used to pay sch fees in IP right? Or is it set aside like edusave for other activities?

I am also very concerned about sending my son to RI. Heard about stories of how students regretted after going to IP in RI. Very stressed… I don’t want my son to be unhappy in sec sch life. Yet if I don’t put RI as 1st choice, then afraid will regret later.


He does not really work hard on his own, but has to be reminded. I mean someone must kind of remind him to study, then he’ll do it. But he is a very obliging boy I must say. Very obedient.

Any advice??? Really can’t decide. scared to make the wrong choice. what if he half way in IP can’t make it then he is without even O level cert.

suecat, if you intend to appeal to scgs, make sure you put scgs as first choice even if you think she has no chance of getting in. They will ask you for that during the appeal round. Really depends on your dd's CCA and if that matches the school's. SCGS is big on aesthetics like dance, choir, synchronized swimming, gym, sports like swimming, badminton, maybe tennis.


Another big factor is the COP. One or two points is really not difficult, but if your CCA matches, you might get through with more than 5 points below the COP.

Thanks . CCA won't help much here cause dd is a libriarian cause she s basically a bookworm. Does getting A* in her english helps or that she actually went through the 1st phrase of dsa in njc with quite high score for eng in the hast test? Just trying my luck.
However if she place scgs as 1st choice , will it affect her 2nd choice ? Thanks

Don't know about the English part, never heard of it though, but you can try. In any case, just try. No harm.

i read somewhere b4 that T-score has quite a few decimal places which is unknown to most of us. So that’s where the decimals come in during sch allocation.

but if the decimals are also equal, … i would think the name or the candidate’s number will come in next. this is fr the viewpoint of a IT person
and the assumption that the allocation is done by the computer.

Yes, the T score has a few decimal places but if the decimals are the same, they go by citizenship (I think u get more chance if u r a Singapore Citizen?) and of citizenship is the same too, then they do something sort of like a "lucky draw" to decide who gets the place if there’s only one place left in the school. This info is somewhere in the psle 2011 booklet, I think.

Just making some wild guesses.

Anything on NJC website like RI supplementary exercise? If don't have, call them. Put in more appeals. You never know which one may call. It all starts with the top IPs who offer under supplementary exercise and then, near or on reporting day, the offered will give up their seats in other IPs and so forth all the way down to neighbor schools. Separately some under S1 exercise may be appealing too after their posting results. So alot of buzz and merry go round happening all at same time. It may take a while. So be patient and help him appeal to a few IPs and top tier O level schools. You can start checking out their websites. Some schools are starting to accept appeals. Btw does he have extras to offer? For example some sports or music talent or whatever. Then this is when it may help. Emphasize on these in appeals. Past years, some scoring below certain schools' S1 COPs get a few calls of offer from them after reporting day. Good luck. Don't give up!

Problem is he has nothing extra to offer except being in GEP.
Other than that he has a WL from RI which I'm not sure whether can be used to appeal since his score is quite far off.
To make matter worse, we will be away from 14 to 18 Dec.[/quote]Just try and appeal. As far as I know, RI considers anyone above 250 'good enough'. The rest is his other performance... CCA, GEP, leadership etc etc. When it comes to choosing sec school, I consider distance the most important factor. I moved house when my son got into RI. RI or ACSI won't make much difference, he will have a good education, the distance will.
