Dad fm East:
Thank you so much, Dad Fm East, for your valuable input. It certainly helped alot. I just returned from the free consultation at RI. An RI boy attended to us and did some orientation. I was quite impressed by the level of maturity displayed by the boy. It gives me a good impression of RI. By the way, any idea how many vacancies after the DSA places taken up are left? Wondering how good are his chances.[
Hi Verysuperkiasu,
Firstly, congrats to your ds good result. I can understand how you felt and the concerns raised. I hope my litte input here may help you to make a better decision.
Ds had just completed his yr1 in RI. From my observation in the past 11 months, he is really happy and enjoying himself there. You did not elaborate what the unhappiness are so I can't comment on that. Busy definitely, but maybe not as stressful as what we imagined. Ds typical week is quite long, CCA (gymnas) from 3.30pm to 6.45pm on Mon, Wed and Fri. Tue and Thu are mainly reserved for projects' meeting or school acitivities. Classes ended at about 2.30pm on Tue and Thu, can't recall.
Btw, Ds is just an average student in his study. He is just like what you describe, not particularly hard working, need constant reminding, playful but obedient. So I believe your son will do just fine in RI.
IMO, the important thing is what is your son preference or choice. Did you and your son went for the open house to have a feel what is like. For Ds, he is sure on where he wanted to go, so it make thing earlier. Do not be overly concern with the O' level thing. The school does make some arrangement on that if it ever reach that stage. Cheers.

Hi Hexagon,
Did they tell you if they ever admit any student with scores below their COP on appeal? Or appeal cases also must be above cop.
And did the WL materialise into a CO ?
You think it is worth appealing to HCI as well?
Appeal cases are normally lower than COP, because they do expect you to put their school as first choice. You need to show that you are sincere in getting into the school, or has a fantastic proposition for them, like in your CCA, which didn't get you through DSA. Appeal is a little like DSA. -

Do you want to consider Bukit Panjang Govt High School? COP 243.smartypants:
Hi, I'm a P6 boy and my tscore is 246  . These are my school choices.
1. ACSI
2. Victoria 'O' level
3. Anderson
4. SJI
5. ???
6. ???
Please offer me guidance on my choices and also help me fill up other two choices. BTW, SAP schools are not a choice for me as my MT is not chinese(but hindi).
Thanks for your help and congratulations to all those who have done beyond expectation for thier PSLE.
Anyone has any inputs or comments on BPGH? TIA -
jtoh:
You should be able to get into your first choice, ACSI, but this will be for the O level and not IP programme. Victoria and SJI are both offering IP this year so you might see an increase in their COPs, even for the O level programme. But if you put a couple of safe options into your 6 choices you should be okay. Someone suggested Bukit Panjang Secondary. That is a good choice. So is Anderson.
Thanks jtoh for your advice. ACSI has always been my dream school ever since I attended their open house. No probs if I get into 'O' level track. Just

that their COP remains stable or drops. I've got A* in maths and english. Also got good hast result for NJC first round. Hope to jump to thier IP track in Sec 3. :xedfingers: Need to work hard though.
Do you think I should put SJI in 3rd place and Anderson in 4th place?

Seriously I don't see much difference between HCI and DHS, unless you stay in Bukit TImah area or you prefer an all boys schools.
Now it all depends on how strict are they going to adhere to their no lateral transfer ruling. -
jtoh:
Which means cannot take O level HCL at year 4, or else will not quality fo take standard CL at year 6 cos overqualified already.
Just take standard level CL in Year 5/6. Very simple. Most of the kids score 7 for it. (7 being the equivalent of A) -

- Andersen Secpondary (COP 245 Band 1)
- Bukit Panjang Goct Sch (COP 243 Band 1)
- Anglican High (COP 242 Band 1)
You may also want to consider applying to School of Science and Technology but this is outside the S1 posting.
Thx, but isn't Anglican High a SAP school? Can those who take minority MT like hindi, punjabi etc go to SAP school?
