Cedar Girls Secondary School

yah no harm trying although the COP is expected to go up
it does not affect her other choices -
Yes! Do put cedar as the first choice. There is nothing to lose. Even if your daughter does not get in, she can appeal, and most likely she will be able to then. Do come down to Cedar open house tomorrow!

Apricot:
Thanks, All. Will select for Cedar and next, Crescent Girls....
Actually the cut-off 248 is just a guideline, the next year intake may be higher or lower depending on the demand. Likely more will apply for IP and if they do not get in, it does not guarantee them Non-IP place unless they indicate as a separate choice. No harm for your dd to try, she may get in.ongkmeng:
My 2nd dd got 247 this year and we want her to get into Cedar Girls' to join her sister. Since 2011 COP is 248 and also next year, there will be IP program, what is the chance of her getting in Cedar Express (non-IP) ?
Any way to appeal if she can't get in using reason like joining her sister, staying in the vicinity ?

My daughter got 255 for her PSLE. Is there any chance for her to enter Cedar IP?

possible chance. The COP for my batch was 246, and I entered with a score of 255, and was number 48. The top 50 of the level would be in IP. So I guess the cop for IP should be around your daughter's score. But it still depends on the cop and mark range for this year. -
just came back from Cedar open house today, 1 pm.
i asked: \"what is this year 2011 psle COP admission into Cedar Sec?\"
reply:-
\"girls opting for O level path - COP is 248.
girls opting IP path - COP still not out yet.
MOE currently still working with Cedar, to decide on COP for the IP programme.\"
Cedar Secondary takes off her maiden flight initiate IP programme, wef 2012 Term 1 (Sec 1).
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1166239/1/.html
out of Total 9 classes (for 2012 Sec 1 batch intake):-
- 100 girls (approx. 3.5 to 4 classes) will come under the new pioneering IP track programme.
- remaining 5.5 classes will come under traditional O level programme.
- feedback gathered:-
majority Sec 1 girls want to take Higher Chinese (HCL).
Yes, majority of Sec 1 girls prefer to take HCL. Very few want to drop out take normal Chinese. Even those not so strong in HCL as been advised by their Chinese teachers to take normal Chinese, the girls said a firm No, they're willing to buck up, self motivate themselves, work harder & improve on HCL, bec they want to stay in the norm with the school culture, where girls desire pursue HCL. Everyone wants the best.
curious i asked, \"how about Indians & Malays ?\"
reply: \"other races can opt for Higher Malay, or Higher Tamil\".
school offer triple Science, school is strong in Science.
2012 Sec 3 will have 5 Pure Science classes.
VP added that Cedar is also strong in Humanities, besides strong in Science.
facilities wise - saw lots of spacious, huge sports & track field for running & jogging, 4 storey high indoor stadium, lots of basketball, netball, volleyball, tennis courts. They also have a huge soccer field, to train girls play football who are interested. Their CCA focus mainly on Sports. ask them - for CCA, do you have Artistic, Rhythmic gymnastics or ballet ? Answer: No. We only have Modern dance.
as the tour continue bring us around, i saw many computer lab modern facilities. The auditorium is very huge, aircon and spacious - girls have their lectures inside. once sit down - don't feel like getting up, feel like dozing off ... the seats are so cozy & comfortable. overall: give me a very modern, spacious feeling, great facilities !
curious, i asked our young, bubbly tour guide currently Sec 3 this year, \"so after O level next year - would you prefer go polytechnic or Junior college ?\" She replied chirpily, \"many of us target to go JC. We're not so interested in going poly. After my O level, i hope that i can go RI.\"

Hi
I have been accepted into Cedar IP through DSA (academics). I would like to know more about the Library & Editorial CCA. Would it be easy to gain CCA points by joining? Also, what days does this group have sessions?
I'm not really talented in sports (a pass in napfa good enough for me, I don't need gold :P) and since I'm considering taking a 3rd lang, and I live in the east, the schedule is v. important. Are there any other good suggestions besides this? -
Is cedar school hrs everyday 7.30am-3pm?
If yes, with CCA after 3pm, you might only reach home at 7pm, do you have time to do homework?
Is there a lot of homework everyday? -
KuroYuri:
hello! library and editorial is rather relaxed, as compared to the other ccas. You'd have to go the extra miles to earn more points as there's not as many competitions to take part in. Many students take up library and editorial as a second cca for more pointsHi

As far as I know, you just need to clock in the minimum hours needed every week for library. There would be a day when you need to go for the full session, which is from 2 plus till 6plus. And the other day, you can just go for the number of hours you need left to clock in.
I'm not really clear on what kind of suggestion you're looking for. You might want to specify. But I take up third language and lessons are at moelc, bishan. Classes depend on the day you have been placed in, and its from 3.30pm - 6.45pm. There's also e-learning to complete at home. Workload is pretty heavy, there are quite a few tests too. Really depends on your own initiative and interest to learn third language. But since its at bishan, there's always circle line which cuts down the time to get home! -

From the last talk the principle gave, school should end around 3 or later, but it is not confirmed. School used to end at 1.50pm. But they extended the school hours to give us small breaks between periods and more time to complete homework in the school hours. Is cedar school hrs everyday 7.30am-3pm?

Is there a lot of homework everyday?
School tends to end pretty late, yes. But the deadline for homework is not usually due the next day like primary school. Teachers usually give a minimum of 2 to 3 days depending on the workload. For chinese compositions, the deadline is up to a week! If you have cca competitions or such, you can always discuss with the teacher for homework extensions.
The homework load might need a little of getting used to. Its definitely a lot more than primary school. It gets pretty overwhelming during term 3, where all the subject projects are due for presentations and reports, and the end of years are approaching.
