      TwaTau:
      Paddy Field:

      Paddy Field reporting ..

My DS had 3A*, 1A with merit for HCL. 26* was his score.
For those who are appealing to their dream school, best wishes.

Anyone has any insider info on RI booklist? My DS had been having too much fun till he's complaining bored .. He has been playing wii, painting canvas, doing experiments etc n still finds it boring. So thinking of letting him read thru some texts, esp those new subj such as geog, history etc to spark his interest.

      :congrats:
Aiyo, let him relax a bit lah. If you really want him to do some reading, bring him to Popular and dump him in the secondary school text book area and read all he wants.

Agree, if he is bored, get him a fishing hook and head towards the sea. Ask him to learn patience and tenacity. He will need lots of that if he wants to be great as an academic one day. You need to get bored and then come up with break throughs. A brain that keep going at the same thing can't really be creative.

If you want him to get acquainted with Geo, history, literature etc, go to the library and read up some stuff, any stuff will be great! This will spark his interests. If you let him read text book, don't you think you'll make it even more boring instead? Just my two cents' worth. Again, if you want RI books, ask the old boys for their booklist, or give me your address, I'llsend all my son's books to you, since I'm clearing the attic anyway. But not sure if his will be outdated, he was sec 1 in 2007.

Haha, you really crack me up! But I have to :udawoman: Be careful of secondary school years, I've seen too many RI boys burned out, even at Sec 1. Boys at that age can rebel and there's no way you can control him or manage him like in primary school. All the best in RI! You can get the uniforms now, but the badge is 'commissioned' after the orientation. I am not sure if they have changed the culture anyway.

How about letting him read the literature text? It's not like he's studying bec he'll be reading a novel.

                  OrangeJuice:

i was looking at S1 form, a bit confused on instruction re choice of 3rd language, can I put all choices from category 3 for eg. Japanese as 1st followed by German and French ? Or my 2nd and 3rd choice have to come from Category 1 and 2 ?

                  Thanks for helping !

To my understanding, the answer is no.

Jap, French and German are under the same cat. You can only choose one language from each cat.

                  Thanks Blur Dad,
u are rite. I sent in S1 form online this morning and the system does not accept all entries from a single category.

                    I need some advise here.

My DS is a gepper with score 258, with co into dhs, was rejected by hci.

If distance is just as far, should we stick with dhs or try to appeal into hci.

Ngbrdad mention that hci has a better branding. Is branding of a sch important? Does it affect the childs chances for scholarship in future if all things being the same?

Also program wise, which is more suitable and interesting for gepper?

Understand, hci is better in humanities, what about dhs?

Need all your expert advise. If u are in my position what will u do?
Hi, Langmum, I have pm you. πŸ˜„

Or how about reading Times magazine, National Geographic. Trust me, these are more important, if you want your child to stand out among all the perfect scorers in a few years when he finish sec school. Think long term, we want our kids to be great thinkers, not bookworms.
