Comparing Pre-school English Reading and Phonics Enrichment
-
MMM:
My K2 did Jan & Elly Phonics program from elementary to advance starting from mid Nursery and end by mid this year. She is K2 this year. Concurrently she also did LW creative english while she was with J&E.
She is currently doing Lcentral liftoff program.
My personal comments is that J&E provides a very strong foundation however 2 years is really long. So it took awhile to see results.
LW creative english, didn't do much. They are a reading program but it was based on our revision with her so she did fine. I don't see them engaging any methods to teach the kids to read.
For Lcentral, I only started her mid this year after her J&E program completed. I would say I see quickest results. Despite completing her advanced phonics, I always felt that blending doesn't come naturally for her. After attending Lcentral for 4 months now, she really pick up alot of new words and fast. Sometimes I wonder if it's a readiness thing. Eg. she is able to decode common sight words really fast now eg. disappointed, disappointment, boisterous, etc... I sort of regretted not sending her to lcentral much earlier.
Hi MMM,
For Lorna Whiston K1 program, is it mainly reading program or they also cover quite a bit of writing, grammer, comprehension skills? Comparing between LW and LCentral Liftoff program, which one has more writing focus?
Thanks for sharing! -
Anyone knows of LC at Yishun branch? Is it good? TIA.

For LW, they have to bring home a book and read and then during the next lesson, they have to read to the teacher. I didn't observe any solid phonics are being taught. There was some writing but looking back, I think it was a waste of $$$. Liftoff is more solid. Eg. they are taught to decode words and there is a comprehension each lesson. Maybe not so much on grammar/ compo. But between the 2, I would choose liftoff.Hi MMM,

lcentral also introduces new vocab in its comprehension passage to the kids. eg. boisterous, etc... -

Sweety Orange, where do you live and what is the reason for not continuing with ICR/Leapbooking/JG Edudrama after the trial/1 term? Different kids will thrive under different enrichment schools so letting us know the reason for leaving the above enrichment schools might give us a better idea of what your DD prefer/can thrive in.Hi all, i am searching a good english and phonic class for my 3.5 yr old dd. Hi Leo, thanks for your reply.
I stayed at Sembawang. The reason stop ICR is because the my DD teacher don't really able to engage with kids, there are children crying, making noise thru out the class and the teacher busy take care of the kids, leave littler time to teach. As for leapbooking, it is operated by a mummy, the class end due to her pregnancy.
Currently my DD still with JG edudrama for the 3 terms. Tot of withdraw her because i feel the class size is too big (12 kids with 1 teacher + 1 assistent). And things they teach my DD already learned from her CC...also due to the size of the class, the teacher can only pay littler attention to each child, and there are no feedback given until we ask... most of the time the feedback are very general (e.g. she is doing good...etc). Another reason also due to the distance
Am looking for a homebased teaching kind of environment, where the teacher is able to identify individual kids' strenght and weekness, and develop accordingly. At the same time, we get involved as a parent, so we can do our part at home after the lesson...
Sound very idealistic? not sure if i aiming too high not  -
Hi sweetly orange, then go for ICL - I Creative Learner

Just would like to check if anyone has tried montessori phonics (as weekend enrichment)? Understand that there is pink…blue…green scheme to go thr’.
For those parents who have tried, does it really help the kids to read well?
My DS2 gg 5 but still cannot read so sourcing for a effective reading structred yet interesting program.
ICL is so full!.. and ICR is another option although alittle far…
Was previously considering MA but not much comments on that and it seems that they dont really teach phonics in a structured way, although they claim that they can help the child to read well…
