I'm not too sure that we need to pay additional fees for the lessons. I thought it was free because the lessons are provided by MOE. All you need to pay for is textbooks, which can cost up to $200 because they are from overseas.

What's the requirement for 3rd Lang, Do U need to secure min score to continue the next yr?
And for the bus service, normally what is the pick up time in the morning for students staying in Beauty World Area (Bukit Timah)?
I personally took Japanese this year and i'm still continuing next year. I took it because i love manga/anime, and that it seems Japanese is the closest language to Chinese,(even the kanji and pronunciation). Jap lessons so far are ok. They have arranged all the notes and grammar rules into each topic so you can revise easily, and hence we need not take notes. However, Japanese gives a lot of homework, and do a lot of e-learning.
I have quite a few friends who take french. They commented that French is difficult to pronounce, there are many exceptions to rules and the topics they are taught are sort of random and there isn't notes or anything to give them so they had to write it all down. The syllabus isn't clear to them so they are often confused and couldn't find the materials and guides to most of the questions. Although i heard they had less homework.
Just to add on, Japanese students tend to do better than the French students. Though i heard Sec 2 Jap would be tougher.
I do not know the exact min.score, but quite a handful of the students who decided to quit Jap start to fail all their exams on purpose for a year. So they ended up getting like 20/100. My friend said that you won't be forced to quit, but she wanted to quit anyway since her results were not good and found it a waste of her time to continue. -

What time is the school bus pickup roughly for pupils staying in Bukit Timah?
Hello i am an RGS Girl Sec 1 this year:) We have recently been informed about the change in timetable next year, if i remember correctly it ends at around 1pm for Wed and Thurs, while the rest of the days it ends at around 2pm. Because of the dismissal time there is no lunch period, and recess time is different each day.
For reporting time it would be the usual 7.25am, that's when the national anthem starts so it's best to be there at 7.20am. On Thursdays, there is an allocated CES time slot for consultation from teachers. Teachers may choose to conduct enrichment lessons during this time but most of the time there isn't. When there isn't, then reporting time is 8.25am:)
There is a school bus service:) I take it too.

No, there isn't any extra lessons for Higher Chinese, we take it during curriculum time. In fact, there are hardly any Supplementary Classes after school, unless it's a special program/enrichment given by teachers. The rest of the time you stay back is because of CCA and things like that:)
Regarding the Apple products used in 2012, i can't help much because our batch is sadly missing all the technological stuff in learning so i don't really know what it would be like XP

All i know is that most school buses will reach school at 7am, and most of the time there are more than 1 bus in the area so they take different routes. The bus do turn into Condos i guess, if it is convenient for them to do so. It really depends on the routes they are taking.

Yes, different areas have different school buses.
I live in Pasir Ris :yikes:. Quite a distance from school, but if i'm not wrong the bus fees are around $90+ a month. Even during school holidays like June and December where you don't take the bus you are charged with the fees. :mad: But it has been like that even for Primary school bus services. -

Quite a slack CCA:) Commitments...Actually my only commitments are my CCA and 3rd Lang, i think that's more than enough:P 3rd Lang, though it's only once a week, is 3h(+15 min break) and the homework load is usually quite big. So i try to do them on weekends.

And no, i cannot understand the whole anime fully :oops: , but just some simple phrases here and there. In year 1 Jap they spend the first term focusing on teaching you how to read and write Hiragana and Katakana. Quite difficult to remember at first(there are 50 characters for each, meaning 50 sounds in 2 different ways of writing
) but after seeing the words more it becomes natural.

The assessments in the beginning consist of spelling, hiragana & katakana table. Somewhere in Term 2 the common tests begin. Common tests usually consist of fill in the blanks, tenses and stuff like fill in the kanji. LC is also common. There are also stuff like fill in the sentence. Most of the time looking out for grammar forms/tenses. Sometimes there are simple reading comprehensions.
Compos are spread throughout the year. I think we did about 3/4. The teacher will guide you through the first compo and the rest of the compos following that will be graded. But the good thing is you can bring them home to do!
EOYs are a little different. There is an oral component and a 2h paper. LC and Compo timing included.
They usually test things that are taught and they upload the topics and forms the assessment includes up on the MOELC site. -
