Hi, thanks for sharing. Actually, I wish he will stay back in CHS too. Because, its just walking distance from our house. However, my DS wants to move on to a new environment after 6 years there.

Furthermore, CHS is implementing IP pro in 2013, this will the last batch for O levels. Naturally, the best resources will be put in there from 2013 onwards. Was told during open house that switching to IP by then is not too possible.
I agree what you say, but not sure will it be the same after next year.

Hi jtoh,

My DS had a 243+2. We intend to choose ACSI as his first choice with an appeal. Do you think any luck?
And also, any suggestion on the order sequence for the below school we intend to choose?

- ACSI
- CHS (he have affiliated advantage)
- Anderson
- SJI
- ????
- ????

Hi, just being a kaypoh here. If I were you, I would put CHS as my first choice. It is after all a band 1 school. Have lots of friends whose DS went to CHS and are full of praises for the school.

If the students fail a test, they might have to stay back after school for extra lessons, then sit for a re-test. I think that is good because the teachers make sure that the students have grasped the topics taught before they proceed to the next.

Also, the principal actually gives out his personal handphone number to all the parents who are present when the boys report to the secondary school. He is probably the only principal in Singapore to do so.

Most of my friends' DS actually did well enough at O levels to join RI(JC). Just sharing what I know. Hope it helps.

Hi, I would like to ask if my dd put NYGH as her first choice and NJC as second with the intention to appeal for NYGH, what will be my dd's chance of getting into NJC if NYGH does not accept her? For yr info, my dd scored 258+2 for her PSLE.

258+2 for NYGH is risky, esp. since NYGH has affiliation intake from NYPS and there will be limited vacancies.

258 for NJC is 1 point above NJC's COP last year. If the COP is similar this year, your gal should be able to get in NJC. However, if there is any increase in COP for NJC, there is a risk. Putting a school as a 2nd choice may jeopardise your appeal chance for that school. I do not know if NJC will insist you must put it as 1st choice if you intend to appeal but it is something you should take into consideration.

Pen88n is correct. Shld place NJC as top choice.
CHS is implementing IP prog in 2013, but the 2012 Sec 1 batch will not be the last batch of O Level as I understand CHS will be implementing dual track prog (like VS) whereby there is both IP and O Level.

ACSI last year's intake is 245, but there is mention that ACSI is increasing the COP to 250. See http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=28579. If this is the case, your DS may not be successful in getting ACSI with 243+2.

By putting CHS as a 2nd choice, you are losing your affiliation status. So you will be subjected to getting in CHS only if you meet the non-affiliation COP of 248 (assuming it remains the same as last year).

If you are really going for a change of environment, no point putting in CHS as a 2nd choice at all (afterall COP higher). You might as well put Andersen and SJI etc. If you just considering trying for ACSI and if unsuccessful, still want to remain in CHS, I can only say that it is a very risky venture, and you should really evaluate the potential downside and risk involved before submitting your choice.

If you are staying in the West, you can also consider the following (not in order of preference):
- Nan Hua
- Bukit Panjang
- ACSI

Yes, you should consider SCGS, MGS, Cresent Girl's. As to what sequence, I think you are in a better position to decide depending on your preference (girl's sch vs mixed vs sap), distance from your pl, transportation, CCA offered, special prog etc. Best to get child involved and she evaluate and discuss with you her preference.

My DS has 257+2 and we intend to put following choices:

1)HCI
2) NJC
3) VS IP
4) DHS
5) ACSI
6) VS O level

We live around Kallang.

Any comments from all?

Unlikely to get into HCI, so drop it. If u are prepared to travel place NJC as top choice follow by VS IP and DHS. If distance is a consideration, move VS iP to top follow by DHS.

Augmum:

No, it's not true that juz becos NYGH is affiliated to NYPS,
that explains why its S1 COP is high......even higher than RGS.
all these yrs, NYGH is already affiliated to NYPS,
but only in recent yrs, NYGH COP is higher than RGS.
in fact, it's the highest among all sec schs COP,
and also their affiliated COP for NYPS has increased.

so for No. 2 in the list above, u cant really take it with a huge pinch of salt..... šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜‰
that are reasons why NYGH COP is high.....

Hi Augmum- glad to see you here šŸ˜„ NYGH takes in many NYPS girls min affiliated COP 250. So they only have limited seats for S1 public posting exercise, explaining its high S1 public COP. NYGH gained popularity after its IP status (ard after 2007), thru train to HCI (JC). I am coming from angle of quality of cohort. No doubt NYGH's S1 COP is highest. But what is its average COP including Affiliated girls? in fact your DD's DHS has higher quality cos non affiliation plus COP 257/8. The lowest scorer in DHS could well be average in NYGH. When I was a new p6 parent, I had misconception that high S1 COP means very good quality cohort. Only when my frens' DDs enter these schools then we start to learn to look at big picture ie also look at Affiliated COP to see the overall quality. I am merely passing on my experience to the new p6 KSPs not to only look for S1 COP for such schools with affiliation. Ok lah, to make you happy, number 2 take with a small pinch of salt ok   I know your DD from DHS. You yourself from NYGH, is it haha šŸ˜† Of course barring cohort quality, there are other reasons why NYGH COP is high  I personally mention in elsewhere in other threads that it is a gem of its own and I respect Mdm Heng a lot :please:

Just to add on about quality of students. NYGH's COP for last year was 262 and RGS COP was 260 for students who got in via the S1 Posting. NYGH's COP includes the bonus points for HCL, so the actual score of the last student who got in at NYGH could have been be 259+3. Marginal difference between the two schools.

Also, note that the scores released by MOE do not include the scores of those who got in via DSA, both academic and sports. Every year, many of the top scorers choose to go to RGS, so all these scores aren't captured either. Of course there are those who got in via sports are also not captured as well. šŸ™‚

Bottomline though is that both are very good schools and appeal to different groups of students.
