      Hi Clayman,

I want my boy to concentrate in an all boys school and not to be distracted with ‘bgr’ problems. He was in a co-ed primary school, and did not really like to interact with girls - as he says that the girls tend to dominate in discussions or projects and the boys could not voice out their opinion.

        Hi, stressedoutmummy...

Well, ACS(I) is only co-ed in Years 5 and 6 — as it was up to 1976 when it was ACS at Barker Road, and as it has been at Dover Road since 2006. 🙂

          Hi autolycus,

Yes, co-ed in Y5-Y6 is fine with me… hopefully by then, he will be more matured and won’t be ‘bullied’ by girls. My only problem now is the distance that he has to travel to and from school. We are also looking at VS but it is also quite far. RI is mummy’s dream school as it is near to our home, but alas…his T-score is 250…

Maybe you can check whether there is a school bus service ?

              Hi ngbrdad,

Yup, i m trying to look for school bus service for ACSI before I can decide. VS is still quite alright as DH can drop him off on the way to work (at the eastern side). But ACSI is way out of the way for him. However, I was told that the programmes at ACSI is good, so I do not want to rule out ACSI just because of the distance factor.

I assume you stay around Bishan/AMK since you say very near RI.
circle line from there to Buona Vista is only 20 min. Then take a bus to Dover.

I think there are at least two bus services from BV MRT to Dover. Used to be 74, 196.

Yes, I think that was the two bus services I saw when I pass by ACSI to get a feel of the distance. Just another question, does ACSI has a higher population of really well-to-do families? I am afraid that he will feel left out. On the other hand, he has a good feeling of VS, though I am afraid that he may not be able to get in VS IP in view of his T-score.

From the data I've been able to obtain, I think most of the initial IP schools have moved toward above-the-median income populations, statistically speaking. There's a direct correlation between home income and student attainment, especially in countries where the 'shadow' education systems (e.g. tuition, enrichment) are strong.

In ACS(I) this is sometimes a matter of perspective. Sure, there are a number of young people from freakishly well-off families, but there are also many normal HDB-dweller types (hey, that's the majority of our population) and foreign scholars. It's a global mix. The sons of MPs, businesspeople and professionals mix with many other kinds. It's a lot less elitist in some ways than you think. 🙂

I agree. My observations also tell me so.
