Band, yes. Chinese Orchestra, not really. Though if you have prior experience you can get an offer without even going through the trials. Note that even with experience you may not get the instrument you learnt to play eg. you may not get drums even though that's what you have experience in, instead you might get the trumpet for band.
Angklung does not need any experience either, neither does handbells. But all of them require you to have basic musical knowledge and sense of rhythm... best if you have taken musical exams. -

Yes that's pretty much all. Though forms of narrative wasn't used much...Poetry book was used quite often because in semester 2 we focus on analyzing poetry.
:thankyou: MummySTay & Choco05.
Maybe I can help here. I understand yr 1 did \"The Giver\", but the text may change. Your DD can always read it first, for leisure.MummySTay:
Hi choco05,
What text were you using for Yr 1 Eng Lit? Is it Animal Farm? Thanks so much for all your help.
Other books include The Forms of Narrative and The Power of Poetry. Not sure if still the same next year. I called up the RGS bookshop and was told that year 1 books would not be avail until 22 Dec.

Hi I would like to ask, do any of you happen to know how the sport trials for Shooting will be held?

See how close you can shoot to the center(or if you can even shoot it out). All about aiming and concentration! -

I understand that there are only 10 vacancies in shooting each year. However, if my info is correct, only 7 vacancies left now as 3 have been taken up by DSA girls. -

choco05, thanks for sharing your experience.Orientation week basically starts when you go to school, and lasts for a week. There's an overnight stay camp on the last 2 days. It features performances put up by the year 1s on the last day(likely a Saturday)and parents can go and see it!
Orientation week is like this week to teach the new Sec 1s our famous Raffles Cheers, introduction to Houses, School song, class bonding and nice stuff like that:) Oh those are the days!~
You will be given a programme booklet that includes a school map(trust me you need it  )and the facilities, plus timetables for each day.
The reason for not being allowed to wear the blouse+pinafore is that you are not considered as an RGS girl fully until the Badge Initiation Ceremony (likely to be on a Friday).
The BIC is nice. You will finally be given the RGS school badge and you get to light up nice candles and sing and it's basically very cool! There will also be games, be it inter-house games or class ones. It's for you to bond with your class! Preparing for the play/performance is cool too.
This might sound frightening to a shy person(i was one) especially the camp but really as you go further into the year you will wish you can have another camp with your class
CCA orientation also falls on this week. Likely the 1st day.
At least this was what we did this year.
DD's super excited about Orientation week after reading your post....She loves overnight camps.
