RVHS in jurong west and TJC in Bedok in the East. Majority of the students could be staying in the west or near the west. I doubt that the students will go all the way to the East.xiaozoo:
any comment on River Valley, thanks!
Sorry, I don't know much, but I can tell you a little of what I saw. Many of them went to DSA for TJC (Year 3 2011) last year. Don't know why. -

Maybe they chose rv for ip and didn't consider distance at sec 1.2ppaamm:

Dear 2ppaamm whatโs your opinion on NUS High ?
You should be familiar with them.
I feel that they are the one with the most resources and are most willing to help to nurture any special interest or talent a kid has. -
ngbrdad:
Actually, I don't know much about them! Except that it is a school I will seriously consider for my own son, because he is very interested in Maths and Science (though his GEP and IQ tests all indicate he is more gifted in English).Dear 2ppaamm what's your opinion on NUS High ?
You should be familiar with them.
I feel that they are the one with the most resources and are most willing to help to nurture any special interest or talent a kid has.
I have the same problem with all the elite schools, they pitch too high unnecessarily on academic level, hence disadvantaging the kids when they apply to universities that look at GPA, think I talked about it earlier. However, the saving grace is that if you intend for your son to go to NUS, the AP courses offered there can be used as transfer credits, which means you save time in the university. If the kids go through the College Board's AP exams through NUSH (I'm not sure if they offer that in NUSH - exams only or courses + exams), then those can be used for transfer credits to many US universities, and even some non US based universities as well. Having said that, some IB courses, I heard also be used for transfer credits. So if you intend for your child to go to Ivy Leagues, then NUSH can offer lots of advantage at entrance. But you must make sure the kid goes through the AP exams, not just take the courses.
If your child is very geared towards Maths and Science, then go for it. It is also near your house. I have a friend's son who went to NUSH (now in 6th year), he topped the entrance exam in 2005. However, he lost interest in Math and Science and got really interested in humanities instead. That was the last heard, and I'm not sure if they cater to his other interests. So perhaps you can ask this question, since the kids are so small, boxing them in one area is kind of worrisome. At a very young age (primary school), our school system gives too much emphasis on Maths and Science and no humanities (besides Social Studies for GEP kids), so the smarter kids 'thought' they like Maths better since they are smart enough to excel in really any subject. When they are given opportunities in sec school to explore humanities, some of them do really well and decide to switch. That's what happened to my nephew, he got into GEP with Maths many years ago (now already in uni) and became the top student in literature at ACSI in sec school. So here is the danger with NUSH or any school that narrow subjects too early for children.
Having said all that.... (again), being geared and excel in one area is not that bad at all as long as they have some exposure in humanities. What's the worst that can happen? Switch back lor. It is always easier to switch from Maths and Science to humanities and not the other way round. -
Anyone knows whatโs the link to last yearโs Choosing secondary schools booklet pdf?
