The fingers and hand muscle has not fully developed yet.

      Please mothers, don’t worry.

Please don’t expect too much from our child. They just came to the world 3-5 years ago. Not like us, half of our life on earth already.

Happened to my girl too! Cannot write and hold properly. Now P1 very nice hand writing.

      Relax, Mothers!

Should I be worried? My elder boy, 4yrs, is struggling with handwriting. He always claim ‘I can’t write coz i don’t know’. Every week, (all) his teachers complain about him (mostly) not doing writing exercises. They think he is clever but plain lazy. (i really don’t like them labelling him lazy at such young age…)

I don’t know what is his problem really. Why can’t he practice like the rest of his classmates does? One of his teachers imitated him stomping feet and exclaimed ‘Why must we do writing everyday, are you all not tired ?’.

He enjoys playing Lego, playdoh, doodling and other exercises which trains up their fine motor skills but when it comes to writing, he simply hates it. Really, plain laziness? or am i missing something here…

i had insisted that ds2 practice writing of some form because i was laxed with ds1 and ds1's handwriting is atrocious even at P3. to write nicer, he actually need to be conscious about writing. very sad.

for ds2, i started with allowing him to write in multiple colours; i 'transformed' writing into 'joining the dots', by dotting the letters for him to join...anything to get his writing homework done 😓. i also used markers and got/create wipe-clean books to encourage him to write. a lot of encouragement/praise/foodbribes. luckily he has weekly writing exercises in K1 to force him/me to continue with writing practices. after the initial hurdle, he can write better than ds1 at 5yo. even his colouring is better than 9yo ds1. his sch teacher will get him to erase his work if it is not nice, so i need not be the bad guy at home..😓

Same excuse here. I get v frustrated these days trying to teach him. He no longer sits around and listens intently like he used to be when he's 2-3yrs old. I wonder if I let him play too much...

Jedamum, I also attempted all that. When the food bribes finishes, his willingness to write also diminishes. Coloring, he's a total mess also. Its a vicious cycle - he has no confidence/interest in writing - does poorly - gets scolded by teachers and the cycle repeats.... :stupid:

for colouring, you can use fat crayons or those 'twist' crayons (those with plastic handle and then when you finish, you twist the tip and then the crayons will extend out. we dont use colour pencils at all.

My girl who is going P2 next year has inconsistent handwriting. Sometimes she can write very nicely, sometimes the hadwriting is terrible.

I figure it’s a mental attitude thingy… I have been trying to encourage my girl to write neatly and instill some pride of neat work… she must take pride in her work and that’s seems to be some motivation for her. However, the motivaton is not very lasting… hence I need to consistently encourage and remind her.

We need to encourage and explain the importance of neat work… in hope that one day they can really understand.
