HC knows 因材施教 mah, good right? :salute:Hi all, then my next few questions are :
On STRAND :
What is Strand 1 and Strand 2? I notice there are 2 strands in both Sec 1 and Sec 2, is this right ? Are P6s banded into different strands based on results ? Why dont students in both strands use the same Lit books? Dont they sit for 1 commom Lit exam paper ?
On buying books :
In order to buy the correct set of books on 22nd Dec, am I right to assume that the child will need to know which class he is posted to that day? Like to iSpark or one of the other 3 consortiums and whether Strand 1 or Strand 2 for that matter?? Cos' if consortium/strand posting is not on 22nd then how would we be able to buy the right set of books? ( tho there are quite a few common books ). In iSpark, I assume no Stranding ?
Aiyoh ... very \"cheeeem\" ....... nevertheless, thank you all for info and patience !!! Very helpful .... -

To add on to joe0599 above, is it more common to find students in HCI using Apple MacBooks or PC brands like Asus, HP, IBM or .....? Do us parents source the laptop ourselves or will there be roadshows in HCI selling specific brands? I understand from Sec 2, they will need to carry one to school? Everyday? Is internet connection accessible everywhere on campus, or only in classrooms? Thanks !!!
Sec 1 no need to buy laptop yet. Future school only begin in yr 2 and they encourage to go PC shows get a good price. no particular brand. But, my ds now fancy macbook leh :moneyflies: -

Used to have a roadshow where some vendors will come and sell their laptops at good price. But not compulsory to buy from them. Yes, school has wifi everywhere.
Some lessons may require certain software to be installed. So just make sure that if u are using MacBooks, the software runs on that OS. -
Hi all, we ( the new Sec 1s for next year ) are supposed to report to HCI on the 22nd Dec at given time 8.30am.
1. Do we need to bring any documents, his results slip etc ?
2. For parents who have gone thru this procedure, can you give an idea what the sequence of events would be that morning ?
3. 8.00am reach there too early ? What time would it finish?
4. What is the estimate amount of cash to bring for buying of textbooks and uniform sets ? 500 ? ( it would be a one-shot-buy-all thing i hope )
5. Any briefing for parents and/or new students ?
6. Does this day include class allocation too?
Thanks ! And enjoy your holiday !!! -

Based on my memory from last year:Hi all, we ( the new Sec 1s for next year ) are supposed to report to HCI on the 22nd Dec at given time 8.30am.

1. It is enough to bring his result slip. You should also bring your bank account information if you want to complete and submit the GIRO form for school fees and misc fees. If such information is not available on the spot, your child can submit the forms after school opens.
2&3&5. It is flexible what time you reach the school. We reached after 8:30am, not sure if they will start registration before that. The registration was very fast, just need to go to the right queue (according to your child's name) and register, you will be given an info pack. If your child is interested in the Art Elective Programme, there was a briefing for that in the morning. Otherwise, there was no briefing for parents on that day. The briefing for all Sec 1 parents were scheduled another day/time in January. The rest of the morning was used to buy books and uniform. Everything can be done in a couple of hours. If you are in a rush, you can go and buy books and uniform another day.
4. Yes, you can buy everything in one shot. I can't remember how much it cost, $500 should be sufficient.
6. Class allocation was made known later during orientation last year.
Hope the above helps, but things may change from year to year. -
Hi all,
Are the kids allowed to wear track shoes to school daily instead of the normal white shoes? -
Does it mean that the kids will be informed the consortium they were allocated before they purchased their books. Are there any differences in the books they use for the different consortiums?

According to the bookshop lady the books are the same across the 4 consortiums for 2012 sec 1. -

Track shoes are allowed, either black or white but should be predominantly black or white not multicoloured type. So branded track shoes with a coloured stripe is acceptable.Hi all,

DJN:
Only black or dark blue colour stripe are allowed. Only white and no ankle socks. So, with this info can look for christmas sales liao if there is.
