I was turned off with their ‘oh we ONLY handle smart kids in our centre’ attitude. They even suggested that I look around for other tuition centres to help bring my kids grades up as there are other centres targeted for that. In the first place my kids are above average academically but they assumed my kids are not just because I asked whether the centre thrive to help kids improve their grades! Sounds arrogant to me! And I never bother to tell them the truth about my kids abilities as by then I’m no longer interested .

It’s simple Math really… When they have a high percentage of achievers in their centre ( due to stringent selection during enrollment), the probability of their student gaining top scores for PSLE will be higher in comparison with those tuition centres who genuinely help weaker students to improve their grades. So their announcement of top PSLE students list… somehow doesn’t mean anything to me thumbs down

I have also decided to withdraw my DS from MS recently. He was in English class at Bishan. The centre does cover many topics extensively each week (grammar, vocab, composition, compre, mock exam papers etc) but I figured the lessons are quite "boring" for my DS… He dreads gg to the lessons (he placed MS as his "least favourite" enrichment lesson among many others that he is gg right now…).

Maybe lower primary kids need a centre that is livelier, motivated teacher, interesting aspects of learning to cultivate their interest in the language.
Having said that, I have enrolled my DS in another school who seems to have a different manner of teaching. Let’s see how it goes…

              Hi,

one of my friend i spoke to was telling about her another friend. she mentioned that her son is with MS for maths, english and science.

recently his scores for all subjects have dramatically improved. so she is also considering to send her DD1 to MS jurong east.

but reading recent blogs, it seems different story.

any body has reviews about mind stretcher @ jurong east?

Mind Stretcher notes are really good (Both Maths and Science). But the teacher may or may not give individual attention to every child. They give worksheets and let the child do it. After that they will correct the worksheets and go thro’ the answers with them. If the child is so shy to ask if he/she can’t understand the explanation given by the teacher, then we will loose. If the child is outspoken and ask the teacher to explain until he/she understands the explanation, then , yes, Mind Stretcher is the good choice.

So can not just look the worksheets alone, let it be English/Maths/Science/Olympiad classes. We must also see the system will benefit our child or not.

As I mentioned in some other thread, Mind stretcher is good for those children who can ask the teacher to explain the concepts/explanation again if they dont understand. They usually give worksheets (really really good) and child must do. they will correct it and will go thro' all Qns or those mistakes only. If your child is shy to ask the teacher if he does not understand the explanation, that is it. You may end up explaining or teaching yr child at home. If you are sending your child to Mind stretcher, you must train your child to talk to the teacher if he is not sure. otherwise waste of time and money.

                      Hi

I don't think so. Even for their achiever levels (Primary), you dont need to take the test. The test is only for high achievers programme where they will teach more challenging/thinking related questions. Hope this helps.

                        Hi,

I have no good impression on this tuition centre as well. I sent my 2 kids, P4 and P6 to Jurong East branch for English tuition for 1 year and did not see much improvement on them, especially the P4 whom I withdrew him 2 months before SA2 as I did not want to waste the time and money. I decided to teach him myself. They have meet the parent session for P6 pupil 2 months before the PSLE. The teacher was in hurry to entertain me and reminded me I was given 5 minutes for the session. My intention was trying to find out how to improve my daughter’s grade P6, so at the end, I left the centre with the status update only. What is the point of getting the status and not getting the solution ? I am not going to send them back to this centre anymore.
