All About Parent Volunteers (PV)
-
Dear Parents,
My daughter is born in Apr 08 and we are hoping for her to get into RGPS . However, we are staying at Sengkang and its very worrying on our eligibility as its not <1km.
We have decided to PV but wondering if its too early to submit the application form now ?
And since our home distance is much far fr RGPS, are there successful cases of kids going to RGPS whose staying at Sengkang or Punggol β¦ ??
Once the PV form is submitted usually how soon we will know the result if we are selected to be one of the PV ?
Thanks a million for ur kind help β¦ -
Hi dogbaby_25
Do you plan to move closer if you successfully register your child in RGPS? If not, it would be very tiring for the child to travel such long distance to and from school.
And if you already have plans to move, you might want to consider doing it earlier plus if you are accepted as PV, the chances of registering your child into the school would be higher.

You have to visit their website to check which year born child they are accepting for PV application. Or you can phone the school for infor. As for distance, this year, there was balloting at P2B for those living more than 2kim.Dear Parents,

HI dogbaby_25,
If you wish to register your daughter in RGPS, then I would urge you to start looking for a place within 1 km to be on safe sideβ¦of course if you successfully become a PV, then time spent travelling is faster.
I remember a parent once mentioned that xx years ago, people living in Pulau Ubin can apply to get into RGPS but not any more with so many condos there now. -
Hi Parents,
Thanks for all ur kind reply.
We are not financially stablised to afford a house nearby RGPS.
Is that any other alternative that allows my daughter to get a seat in RGPS.
Can I rent a apartment ?? If yes, should I do it now itself even before PV ??
Anyone applies for PV will be selected or only selected ones will be eglible for the PV ? -
if you stay > 2km radar out of RGPS (Senkang) - even under 2B, it is risky!
under 2B - not only internal PVs apply, but external grassroot community leaders also fight for places with you. They're also eligible to apply under 2B.
due to conversion into single session by 2016 - not sure if coming P1 2013 intake might be reduced:-
P1 2011 - Total 10 classes (300 pupils)
P1 2012 - Total reduced to 9 classes (270 pupils).
and because 2012 reduced 1 class intake, under 2B - 8 pupils staying beyond > 2 km balloted out! if 2013 were to reduce intake to 8 classes, many more will be balloted out ...

if you intend to rent a house < 1 km, good!
but first, think safer check with school to confirm facts:-
for rental - do you need minimum period to stay < 1 km from RGPS ? if answer is No, that'll be great !
the journey from Senkang to school (Hillcrest road) is extremely far.
your poor P1 daughter will be very tired.
2014 and 2015 - school going to shift to temporary premises at Mt Sinai (Holland). Senkang to Holland distance is even worse. -

Not sure for RGPS in specific but for some schools, only those selected by the school will be accepted to perform PV duties. Some schools even conduct interviews to select their PVs.
Anyone applies for PV will be selected or only selected ones will be eglible for the PV ?
Having said all these, there is ultimately no harm to apply provided the application date is not over.

range of duties - for PVs (RGPS), under FAQ.
a lot of parents had been asking - exactly what kind of PV work are available in the school ?
thus, the school had set up a webpage to answer hopeful 2B parents.
it is no longer a secret (hush hush) in the past.
click under 'What We Do' on left hand side menu.
there, you can see a whole lot of what are the parent volunteer duties desired, depending on your time availability & skillset offered to school :-

if you don't mind, they may be looking for volunteers for the \"Character Building Development\" programme, an important crucial aspect not just focus on academics alone. you may propose or brainstorm ideas to the team what kind of meaningful activities to engage children in, that can help to develop good character values to pupils in the school (eg: respect, integrity, graciousness, humility, sincerity, compassion, kindness, caring, creativity, others - along the theme of RGPS character building values).
but which day of the week, what time slot, perhaps you may call up school directly, ask to speak to the Head of PV programme Officer in charge, get hold of detail. She handle all these matter discreetly & assign duties to PV accordingly, be it in this area or otherwise. -
depends on which school you apply PV.
some school during interview, they'll tell you on the spot exactly what kind of duties they want you to do. It's up to you whether or not you can fulfill that time slot, ie. can you take leave every week for that particular week day, & for that particular time spot they assign you, clock up PV hrs ?
example:
my friend attended Pei Chun PV interview. she was asked, \"can you commit every week say day X (weekday) come down before lunch time in the canteen to cut fruits for our pupils, & explain & encourage pupils to eat more fruits, good for body & explain healthy natural vitamins nutrition value ? Each week, introduce a new fruit to pupils. But for this task, we need only the mother stand in the canteen cut fruits in front of pupils & explain, not father.\"
then my friend ask, \"can my husband contribute in other areas ?\"
reply: \"Not from father, at this point in time. We need the mother more. \"
this is a simple task ... cut fruits, wash fruits. But my friend's boss don't allow her to take leave every week for that day - so she lost her chance, in the end given to someone else instead. she was upset. what a great pity!
