Why does MUM has to make all the Decision?????
-
I am a SAHM too. Thought of taking a break from all the decision making…ahaha…Guess life is nothing but decision, decision…and more of IT.
Hey, 3 daddies vs 3 mummies. Guess it all boils down to phantom!
Speaking of music, is it a good idea to get children exposed to music instruments? My 3 boys seem to have an infinity to music, but i thought boys being boys…i rather get them started on golf, gym rather than music. Not sure if i have the correct thinking? -
Music is a skill that you need to start young. Kind of like cycling…once you get older, you will find it difficult to have the discipline to practise and practise over and over again.
Golf can wait…gym, if the child is keen, also need to start young. -

Yuh... absolutely agree. But aside from aesthetics like music, there are certain sports which you need to start them young too... things like swimming and gymnastics. Best to be at 4 years old. Beyond Pri 3, it is impossible for kids to grow any real talent from these hard core sports. Things like fencing and golf can wait, unless you are trying to grow a tiger woods.Music is a skill that you need to start young. BTW... I believe phantom is a guy too... so daddies win! Yeah! -
hi hi sTresSmUm,
I m a mum too. Wow this forumn happening now. On the music thingie, I am starting to do my research. my boy now 28months.
Seems they had a study of kids between 4- 6 before and the kids who learn musical instrument have better IQs.
Now trying to look at the differnt music schools. Have you heard of the Suzuki method? wondering whether to put him in a school who teaches that or using traditional method is better. -
phantom is a guy? Haz...I always imagined him to be a sexy woman. hahaha.

my bro picked up guitar and electronic keyboard (self-taught) when he was 21.
unless you are talking about piano or violin..that is another issue.
planning to start ds2 on gym as soon as he is eligible to enrol...he is a mini spiderman at home... -
my eldest boy loved Little gym at Forum...u might wan to check it. Very nice and encouraging instructors.
mincy...I heard about children doing better in math if they are into music. I did organ for about 10 years, frankly speaking...i am just average. ahaha...maybe i am the exception? ahah..
Suzuki method? Nope, have no idea about it. But there are so many form of musical instruments, it is quite tough to decide for them. Unless they expressed certain interest in learning a particular type.
Golf? I went for a trial class with my son (the eldest is always my guinea pig). He had fun at kindergolf, the only problem..cannot really follow instruction. So, i am waiting til he is about 36-38 months and he could have another go at it. Hey, Tiger wood? i wont mind..
So...phantom...are u a daddy or mummy??? aahah....we are all waiting for the verdict.

Yeah yeah…interest will bring you a long way. But before you can go with interest, you need the groundwork to overcome the physical technical skills. Music can be a very practical thing. But of cos talking about playing an instrument lah. If into composing and those theoritical stuff, then start late also can. This technical skill is the hardest thing to overcome. It is kind of like typing. You cannot be looking at the keys when typing. When you play the piano, you need to reach a stage where you need not look at the score to play. It really is about rote programming…not easy to attain that level. Most classically trained musicians are overally dependent on the score. Take out the score, they mostly can’t play.

sTresSmUm:
Is the Little Gym at Forum the same as the http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/enrichment/little-gym mincy posted? So good meh? I tried Tumbletots in 2002 for my son when he was like 2 years old and frankly, although the instructors were generally caring and attentive, I thought the whole thing was a waste of money as it didn't seem to have any effect on my son. Perhaps my expectations were too high.my eldest boy loved Little gym at Forum...u might wan to check it. Very nice and encouraging instructors.

U did music for 10 years, but the question is when u started. If it is after P3, chances are, it will have zero effect on you. I played the clarinet for 6 years from Sec 1 and I was as stupid as I was when I got started.
Golf - hmmm - somehow I still don't see it aerobic enough to be considered a sport. But that's just me. -
ha ha about the math thing. I did piano from around 7 to 17 and my math is not too good either. But then the study is for kids that start at a young age ...like 4 years old.
suzuki method train the children to play by ear I think. But anyway, I think when you introduce some thing to children early and make it fun for them, chances are they will like it.
