If the kid is taking maths olympiad and hopes to get awards for DSA consideration. -
Hi, my DD will be taking PSLE in 2013. I also think it’s the right time to start preparation in P5. Even during school holiday like now, she is also doing some maths problem sum for 2 hours every a.m. Then she can play like mad in the p.m. Orelse, she will even call to say that she feel bored with nothing to do.
Oh, and I also make her read science at leisure now. And just give her past year papers on MCQ only. And those error, I will repeat the same question in the next next paper.
For CL, she will read aloud to me every evening. Usually I read to her 1st lah. So my preparation for now is such. Guess there is not too much pressure. It’s school holiday afterall. -

English? nothing for now. During school time, I do make her do 1 comprehension & 1 written expression every week.

So good!! You all are able to help your kid. I am a parent who are unable to help my girl because my standard is not good enough to teach her. I am so worry that I will teach her wrongly instead.
My girl has to be independent on her own. So now she is VERY free at home.  -

I can't help my kids proficiently too - what we learnt in the past is so different from what our kids are learning now.
But from the exam paper format, I try to see which areas to be tested in the exam and start from there. Then look out for assessment books or top school exam papers. Usually go through concepts first, then do the questions. If still don't understand the answers in the answer key, then they will have to ask their teachers in school. That's the best I can help them.
I will also constantly ask them what they learn in school to make sure they pay attention in class.
Important thing is - pay attention, do homework, revise after each lesson and consistently, practice exam questions. know where they have gone wrong, and don't be careless. Then they should be able to do well. -
For PSLE it's still practice, practice, practice. As long as ur child does the assessment/exam papers diligently, it shd be no problem.
For this hol, I prefer to get my kids to do things they don't hv the time to do once Sch reopens. We swim, shop, watch movie, bake, go library etc. Once Sch starts, they will hv to go back to the mindless drilling of Sch hmwk, assessment, exam papers
