All About Montessori

Hi,


Anyone knows of any non-aircon montessori around amk/bishan/serangoon?
DS having sensitive nose. So sad that due to this reason i have to withdraw from his current preschool.

anyone has kids in CS Montessori at Nex Serangoon? I am interested in their phonics enrichment program… is it good?

I am also looking at Montessori phonics as weekend enrichment for my DS2. Can I check how long will an average kid need to go thr' the pink-blue-green scheme before they can independently read a simple book by themselves?


My DS2 is gg 5 but .. sigh :slapshead: still cant read words, despite me reading to him every single night without fail (he enjoys books but most of e time, refused to read aloud).
So I figured must be sth wrong with the way I am \"teaching\" him, ie he def needs a structured program e.g. Montessori phonics or ICR kind of program to give him the correct guidance.

I love the concept of Montessori and could see how much it had helped my DS1 (in terms of his attitude towards learning) when he attended Montessori schools back then but for DS2, due to logistics issues, he prob can only go to Montessori as enrichment for the moment.

Yes buds, my 4 y.o. DD2 is currently in their weekly phonics prog.

Karenjj, not sure if u r familiar wif Montessori phonics. She started in jul tis yr wif e pink scheme and has juz embark on e blue scheme.

Not to paint a rosy picture for u lest u get disappointed. IM actively teaching DD2 at hm wif phonics as well. Thus her progress has been v satisfactory for DH & me. :celebrate: Yes, DH too. He din understand my enthusiam & insistence on a Montessori education till he saw DD2's progress. He is now convinced tat yes, DD2 & in future DS3 will benefit fr a good Montessori program. He is oso convinced tat parents' reinforcement at hm will act as a catalyst in our kids' progress. Of course mummy has 2 put in lots of effort lah.

We slow down e pace of sight reading for her but seems like she can read even better now wif phonics grounding. She is also able to spell 3 letters phonetic words.

At CS Montessori, ey do handwriting practices as well. Her handwriting has made tremendous improvement too. She rarely has mirror image prob compared to my DD1 at e same age.

So far, she has enjoyed her lessons at CS Montessori v much. Nex yr, she'll b joing em 4 e daily lessons instead (mummy is so excited....!!! :siao: ). Reason being we oso wan to expose her to other Montessori areas like Maths, Cultural, Botany, Geography, etc.

Mayb u can share a bit more abt yur DD or DS?

My dd2 is currently 3y.o., we do teach her at home and she can already recognise all the 26 alphabets. However, she still cannot write the alphabets or remember the phonetic sounds. She has asked to attend classes like her sister and we thought it might be good to start her early on English. We are contemplating between I can Read(dd1 school) or CS Montessori(nearer our home).
We have actually went down to the CS Montessori last week and honestly, quite disappointed with the teacher who did the assessment for my dd2. During the assessment, when my girl did not respond(she was quite shy that day), the teacher just sit there, look at her and wait. She emphaize that she does not coax the children in her class. She also mentioned that her class consists mainly of children 4-5y.o. I do not doubt her ability to teach but am concerned whether my dd2 is too young to benefit from attending her class.
We are thinking maybe to start dd2 next Jun when she is abit older.. Any advice?

IM so sorry to hear abt the disappointing experience u had.

As my dd started at 4 and wif personal coaching fr mummy :evil: , she has indeed benefitted greatly.

Personally, I tink tat both ICR & Montessori phonics r gd. However e teacher muz b able to connect wif yur kid and deliver e prog well. Use yur 'mummy instincts'. If u tink yur dd will not benefit, u may wan to reconsider. Mayb u can try teaching her at hm first & c her progress? I started wif letting dd watch phonics dvd and using objects to teach her single sounds. We oso use sandpaper letters to let her trace cos she was not able to write then. Yes, at 4, she was not really writing, more like tracing. She had great fun while learning though. Good luck!
