Hi wonderm, thank u v much for your infro n is very encouraging to hear that! My DS gotten low 25x via dsa sports, so juz afraid he might not be able to catch up with those 260+ 270+ n scholars in HCI....Thanks alot!

Chandelier, I have 2 sons in HCI. From what I observe, there is not much correlation between PSLE scores and academic results in Sec school. If your son has 25x in PSLE, he has equal chance of doing well in HCI compared to those with 26x and 27x. DSA via sport or not, time management is very important, as someone mentioned earlier.

All the best to your ds! Hope to hear good news from you as he settles in HCI.

Someone I knew also got 25* and got into HCI. However, at the of the 6 years, he did very well in his 'A' levels and even made a great improvement in his Econs from U to B. What you achieve in P6 will not determine what you achieve 6 years down the road. All the best!
Hi

Can I have the HCI S1 booklist ?

Thanks.

Language Arts
Animal Farm
Mao's Last Dancer
Empire of the Sun

Chinese
Higher Chinese for Secondary School 1A and 1B (2011 Edition)

Maths
Discovering Mathematics 1A and 1B

Science
Ambook

Integrated Humanities
Singapore Settlement: Pre 1819-1971 Textbook and Workbook
Geography Skill for Lower Secondary

You can just go to the school to get the book list and books, they packed them into a set already.

Hi,
Do you mind if you can let me know how much it cost as well as the publisher for the 3 Language Art books? TIA
I've lost the booklist already but as my memory serves, Animal Farm is by Longman and is $12.80. Mao's Last Dancer is by Penguin and is $22.80. Empire of the Sun is $19.80. The prices in the school are cheaper as there isn't GST.

Went to HCI bookshop today to buy 2012 Sec 1 books, uniform and PE attires. Some of the books no stock. The bookshop auntie said next week all books will be in.

Those who want to compare books passed down from relatives/friends/siblings, here is the booklist.

Animal Farm, George Orwell, Longman - $10.90
Mao's Last Dancer, Li Cuixin, Penguin - $22.80
Empire of the Sun, JG Ballard, Harper Collin - $19.50 (no stock now)
Higher Chinese 1A (2011 Edition), CPDD, Panpac - $3.30
Higher Chinese 1B (2011 Edition), CPDD, Panpac - $3.30
Discovering Mathematics 1A Textbook, Chow Wai Keung, Star Publising - $14.35
Discovering Mathematics 1B Textbook, Chow Wai Keung, Star Publising - $14.35
Ambook - DVD (For Windows), Amdon, $?? (no stock yet)
Singapore: From Settlement to Nation Textbook, CPDD, Panpac - $4.60
Singapore: From Settlement to Nation Workbook, CPDD, Panpac - $3.05
Geography Skill for Lower Secondary, M.C.Clarke, Pearson Edu - $12.90
Hwa Chong Song Book - $3
Stationery - $33.70 (consists of sch collar badge & buttons, exercise bk, writing pad, report bk, ็จฟ็บธ, test tubes)

Price range for the uniform is as follow:
1) shirt - $12.50 to $20
2) short - $10 to $17
3) PE shirt - $7
4) PE short - $8

I was quite surprised to see one of the item in the booklist is test tubes. We are required to buy 6 test tubes ($0.70 each). Wonder is it a must to buy, anyway I bought it cos the auntie said is compulsory. The school doesn't provide test tubes during Sci lab lessons :?

For those existing Y1 parents and students, may I know does the school use the history workbook? I didnt buy cos not sure will be using or not. It seems that all the books are quite thin, not sure is it too brief? On the other hand, it is good cos the boys no need to carry big and heavy school bag.

The submission is already over. o.O

Chances are not too high as the past COPs are around 257-259. Considering the fact that this year's PSLE results are about the same as last year's, the COP would probably be the same. Give or take 1 mark.
