May I know does LEP has any relationship to the Bicultural Programme in Year 3. As in like those in LEP have higher chance to get into bicultural?

Today our DS will know their class.

Btw, there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow!

    • RE: DSA Appeal 2011

      samontheway:
I double checked the moe website on dsa: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/dsa-sec/

no info like \"unallowed appeal\" at all. It just mentioned that the dsaer cannot participate S1.

Since some friends here talks alot about \"immoral, disloyal or unfair\", what about S1 appeal? any difference between them in terms of immoral or disloyalty or unfairness? sorry, no offence to the S1 appealers who are already successful. congrat! I wish i was one of you.

As to the unallowed appeal to DSA, no school released this info during my visits to any of their open-houses; even for NYGH,(1 English auditorium and 1 Chinese auditorium), i took the first session of Chinese one but i was not informed. but somebody said both HCI and NYGH did so, i am wondering \"is his or her kid girl or boy\"? why did this guy took part in the said two school?

You talking about me huh? Sorry for the late reply, have not check KSP for a few days. Fyi, my son did not take part in both schools, he is not qualify for NYGH. 😂

HCI orgainised a parent symposium for all WL and CO students on 22 Oct, a few days before the P6 students exercise their DSA offers. HCI invited two speakers, parents whose sons are currently in HCI, to share with us how did their sons cope in HCI. One of the parent was Mdm Heng, P of NYGH. It was during this informative and well organised symposium that both the P from NYGH and HCI informed us of the MOE's directive. They reminded us that the DSA exercise is an opportunity for us to teach our children on moral value - honour their commitment! I was grateful that HCI made an effort to organise the symposium and am glad that I attended it.

My personal opinion is if RI 不吊起来卖 and organise such useful and informative talk/symposium for parents, like what HCI did, all this DSA appealing (between RI and HCI) will not happen. Aiyo, this forum is flooded with RI supporters, I better :siam:

Sometime I wonder is it the child who feel sad that they cannot get into their dream schools or is it the parents who feel 没面子?

    • RE: DSA Appeal 2011

Before applying for DSA, we were told that MOE is not going to entertain DSA appealing this year and were advised to DSA to school(s) that our child is/are keen or do not mind going. The P from NYGH and HCI have also informed parents abt MOE’s direction.

Since the pupil was informed of the DSA outcome before the PSLE (even before prelim) and only needs to exercise the DSA offer AFTER the PSLE so the pupil should have a feel how well he did for the exam. In fact MOE has given us more than enough time to consider whether to take up the 2nd choice CO. Imagine we have to exercise the DSA offer before the PSLE!

Sunflowermom -> wow you provided great details .... thank you.... at least now i know how much to bring.

I was in a dilemma when I was at the bookshop because I was trying to recall which books do I have at home so that I will not buy again. I did not buy some of the books as I did not bring enough money! I think other parents may face the same problem as me so I decided to share the info here. BTW, they accept both cash and cheque.

Like you, I was rather surprised that there isn't any Sci textbook. Perhaps some helpful HCI parents/students can advise do we need guide books.

Thank you vlim, Funx3, koguma, Just888 and other parents for sharing your experiences and advices.

Is there a different for NA students who gained admission to poly after the N Level exam as compared to O level, such as cannot choose ‘hot’ courses?

My friend visited BPGH and the teacher told her that it us extremely difficult for N student to promote to E stream, is it true?

    • RE: 2011 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

      Hi, need some advice here.

My Friend’s DS scored 198 for the psle. He has an option to choose between E and NA. During the S1 postings, he chose NA and put BBGH as 1st choice as many advised my friend that it is better to be a big fish in small pond than a small fish in big pond.

However, these few days my friends kinda of regret as she felt that NA will waste a year as compared to E. She was thinking to appeal to FuChun Sec in Woodland for E stream.

May I know what is the pro n con for NA? How is FuChun Sec? Can any parent shared their similar experience?

Went to HCI bookshop today to buy 2012 Sec 1 books, uniform and PE attires. Some of the books no stock. The bookshop auntie said next week all books will be in.

Those who want to compare books passed down from relatives/friends/siblings, here is the booklist.

Animal Farm, George Orwell, Longman - $10.90
Mao's Last Dancer, Li Cuixin, Penguin - $22.80
Empire of the Sun, JG Ballard, Harper Collin - $19.50 (no stock now)
      Higher Chinese 1A (2011 Edition), CPDD, Panpac - $3.30
      Higher Chinese 1B (2011 Edition), CPDD, Panpac - $3.30
Discovering Mathematics 1A Textbook, Chow Wai Keung, Star Publising - $14.35
Discovering Mathematics 1B Textbook, Chow Wai Keung, Star Publising - $14.35
Ambook - DVD (For Windows), Amdon, $?? (no stock yet)
Singapore: From Settlement to Nation Textbook, CPDD, Panpac - $4.60
Singapore: From Settlement to Nation Workbook, CPDD, Panpac - $3.05
Geography Skill for Lower Secondary, M.C.Clarke, Pearson Edu - $12.90
Hwa Chong Song Book - $3
Stationery - $33.70 (consists of sch collar badge & buttons, exercise bk, writing pad, report bk, 稿纸, test tubes)

Price range for the uniform is as follow:
      1) shirt - $12.50 to $20
      2) short - $10 to $17
      3) PE shirt - $7
      4) PE short - $8

I was quite surprised to see one of the item in the booklist is test tubes. We are required to buy 6 test tubes ($0.70 each). Wonder is it a must to buy, anyway I bought it cos the auntie said is compulsory. The school doesn't provide test tubes during Sci lab lessons :?

For those existing Y1 parents and students, may I know does the school use the history workbook? I didnt buy cos not sure will be using or not. It seems that all the books are quite thin, not sure is it too brief? On the other hand, it is good cos the boys no need to carry big and heavy school bag.

CCA in HCI is not divided into core or merit

Oh, like that. Then how many CCA is required? :?

I read from the earlier posts, look like HCI also has CCA orientation and students are to rank the CCA base on their preference (provided the CCA choose the student too).

Is it very siong to take 1 UG/Sport + 1 club + 3rd Lang (MSP)?

      ksasalways:

Booklist will be given out during the orientation session ...a day will also be allocated for iSpark students to make the purchase. I do not think anyone will have the book list, but you can definitely try the bookshop if you really want to purchase them so way in advance.
Oops! Typo error. Actually am asking for 2010 Y1 iSpark booklist, not the 2011.
