I knw he wanted to choose NA right after psle result was out, and he did end up in the sch he had originally wanted, but i do not knw if it was by moe posting or thru appeal. Can u actually indicate if u r applying for express or NA during S1 posting exercise?
From what I know, you can only indicate Express or NA if your PSLE score is those in the borderline case (eg. 188 to 199). Few years back, my nephew has the choice to to choose from Express or NA. He needs to indicate the stream and the 6 schools during S1 posting exercise.

Hence if it is true that those who scored above 200 can choose to do NA, I wonder how the students do it? Do they still go through the normal S1 posting exercise, or they appeal seperately to MOE. I don't think the IT System is so flexible to allows student to indicate which stream they want. What if a NT student choose Express instead? There must be some checks in the system to ensure that students cannot choose any stream they want !

Thank you vlim, Funx3, koguma, Just888 and other parents for sharing your experiences and advices.

Is there a different for NA students who gained admission to poly after the N Level exam as compared to O level, such as cannot choose 'hot' courses?

My friend visited BPGH and the teacher told her that it us extremely difficult for N student to promote to E stream, is it true?
You can refer to the MOE website on what are the recent changes to NA and NT >> http://www.moe.edu.sg/education/secondary/normal/changes/

So it is possible for NA students to go to Poly with their N level results. However the students need to do a one-year Foundation Programme (FP) at the polytechnics. However this new option will only starts in 2013.

As for whether it is difficult for NA students to promote to Express, I think it depends on how difficult the school set the exam papers. From what I understand, a pupil who attains 70% or higher on average for all subjects at the end of Sec 1 or 2 (Normal Academic) may be transferred to the Express Course, if deemed able to cope with the demands of the Express course.
Lets say a NA student may be weak in Eng Lang, Maths, but if the student scores well in subjects like Home Economics, Art, Design & Technology, there is still a chance for the student to make up for the low points score in Eng Lang, Maths and still promote to Sec 2 Express.

This is what happened to one of my nephews who managed to promote from Sec 1 NA to Sec 2 NT (same 70% criteria) due to subjects like Computer Applications (CPA), Design & Technology (D & T), Home Economics, which he did extremely well.

Sorry, correct me if I m wrong, I alway thought that NA is better than NT? :? So, if a student did well in NA, he/she should be promoted to Express right?
