Good morning kakis
Mintymin, you can leave bks around to pique his interest, get bks he is interested, DD1 is into princesses so have those girly bks.
I think also becos he is still building his reading skills, so maybe that’s why he is a bit "off" books? When he has mastered the blending, am sure he will be more interested.
Maybe he is more into non-fiction books? There’s a comic science series that’s quite popular and there’s the science mag, young scientist that’s easy to read. I have pop up machine book and body bks which DS is very interested.
Another indirect way to influence is that adults are seen reading too.
Sometimes, it takes awhile to build the interest. -
SAHM.. DS is only interested in reading books like u say.. comics.. or books with lots of pic.. he will usually browse it thru juz the pictures.. n will tell me.. he is done reading.. :slapshead: :stupid:
-
I bought story bk n young scientist for ds too…but it also depends on his mood to read. He used to bring the bk to cc, but now at basc he didn’t bring it. So only ask him to read when he is free…

On ya, I attended a talk once, one of the experts said that although more and more kids are reading at an earlier age, he still believe in reading at seven, the traditional age. So cheer up MintyMin, am sure you are doing fine.

MintyMin, no worries, yr ds has lots of time on his side.
My ds1 is an avid reader now at the end of p2, but at the start of p1 yr, he was not much of a reader at all. I am a very laidback mum (didn’t even teach my kids the alphabet etc) and definitely didn’t read much to them, but i do have tons of books around and read a LOT myself. Looking back, i think ds1 just didn’t find the right material to interest him, but once he did, he took off like a rocket. -
CayennePepper.. thanks for the kind words.. i also hope i can find books tat interest him to keep his reading habits going.. n i guess i will haf to do the same for DD2 too.. as she is too much like DS.. while DD1.. no worries.. but she does pester me to read books to her.. so i shldn't reject her at all.. n shld keep her 'fire' in book reading going..
