I bought story bk n young scientist for ds too…but it also depends on his mood to read. He used to bring the bk to cc, but now at basc he didn’t bring it. So only ask him to read when he is free…

On ya, I attended a talk once, one of the experts said that although more and more kids are reading at an earlier age, he still believe in reading at seven, the traditional age. So cheer up MintyMin, am sure you are doing fine.

MintyMin, no worries, yr ds has lots of time on his side.

My ds1 is an avid reader now at the end of p2, but at the start of p1 yr, he was not much of a reader at all. I am a very laidback mum (didn’t even teach my kids the alphabet etc) and definitely didn’t read much to them, but i do have tons of books around and read a LOT myself. Looking back, i think ds1 just didn’t find the right material to interest him, but once he did, he took off like a rocket.

I always wonder why there is a rush to push kids to read early. Most wouldn't be developmentally ready at, say, four, to read well. But maybe my definition of reading is different  When parents say their kids read at an early age, do they mean simple one-sentence-per-page picture books? Or beginner chapter books? Encyclopaedias??

Buddy read! You read one page, she reads one page.
Good for bonding 😄 Snuggle up and read together... I should do that hmmmm.
