Science Guide Books

G Tan:
Text books are not accurate, cos they may not follow exactly spelled out by MOE
Then I need to check syllabus properly...thanks.
Using the Preston Science guide given by my neighbour. It's good but everything is thrown in, so don't know WHAT is in, and WHAT isn't :faint:
Was flipping through son's textbook on Energy...there are just headings but no in-depth explanation...sub-heading just mentioned 'soil' but no mention of what kind of soil is 'good soil'. -
janet_lee88:
huh? :scared: Need to know to so much details as to the various types of soil? I do not know the answer of good soil also. I can only tell it is a gardening soil or not when i do my gardening.G Tan:

Then MOE should not ask our children to get those textbooks. Confuse us? They should update the books in time for change of syllabus.

Later, I get blacklist by the MOE by saying the above. Better go now.... :siam:

Science textbooks have been hopeless for many years. MOE won't blacklist parents...they should know better since they are the ones who authorize these publishers to provide text/activity books.
As for the soil, the Preston guide mentioned 3 types of soil - garden/loamy, clayey and sandy soil. Hope I got this right. -
They only need to know about types of soil thing when they r in P6, not at lower primary!

Energy at P3/4 is on heat and light energy. Usually the topic of 'energy' is taught in P4 in most schools. Son's school taught 3 topics - 'systems', 'energy' and interaction (magnet) last year. -
Regarding which topics to tecah in p3 or P4, this is up to individua school to plan according to theri curriculum. My school tecah CYcles (Matter), Energy(light, heat), Systems(Body, plants) in p4
