The BIG Breakdown or Meltdown

Why never reduce fare since number of trains also reduce and the speed too? Oh, it's private company?
Ya, we can all live with it, but at whose cost? -

SPH reading fr script n appears insincere when apologizing for SMRT's shortcomings. Its a PR disaster. My bet is she is history with SMRT.

I do like this suggestion. It still boils down to profit driven management. No profit driven company would think of this because it has a social agenda to it. There was a time when elderly folk had concessionary fares. That was taken away in the name of fairness. Now it is pay per distance. Some old folks go out less because of this. I talked to these old people. They were much saddened but have no way to make their representations.
\tFares from Admiralty to Boon Lay
\t
\tThe fare (in Singapore Dollars) for your chosen trip is:
\t
\t
Type of Fare\t \tFare
Standard Ticket\t:\t$2.10
Adult\t:\t$1.72
Child\t:\t$0.58
Senior citizen concession [See Note2]\t:\t$0.87
\t
\tNote:
\t
\t1) Fares shown above are for direct trips on MRT/LRT without any transfer to/from bus.
\t
\t2) From 8 October 2011, senior citizen concession hours will be extended to full-day throughout the week.
\t
I actually it is the role of the g'ment to take care of this. Be it what it may, I don't think 87cents from Admiralty to Boon Lay is an exorbitant amount for the majority of senior citizens. There will be a minority that will need assistance, so we assist those instead of upending the whole system. -

$0.87 for whole trip? Travel from end to end station also same cost?
That's good. -
Oppsgal:
Yes, its pretty good. All this furore about their profit level is misplaced, IMO, if the fares are reasonably affordable. $1.90 for adult fare for the same distance travelled is incredibly good value, in my view (which generates 22cents profit for SMRT).

Quite reasonable for the majority, I feel. Of course, we help the lower 10% who cannot afford, but lets not change the whole train system because of that. -
i never said im against announcements. i just said because the way the bus stops are named, the announcements will be weird.
and i never said 60% was good enough. i just want to state stuff from another pov…
and i seriously beg those ppl who complain that the train delay cos of weather. it’s been going on ever since the mrt started running but you only knew it now? -
Hmmmm… 3boys. Good point. Assuming that the numbers are correct. Good point. I’m half convinced. Need to think.
Still doesn’t resolve problem of maintenance…
