Taxis are NOT allowed to reject passengers, unless they display the appropriate signs before stopping (\"on call\", \"change shift\" etc.. )Oppsgal:
That time went singapore flyer, we carried our kid of around 2 years old then. We que up for taxi. Guess what? A taxi driver drove in the taxi stand, roll down window ask where we going... then said it is out of the way. Drove away...
Then another came, do the same too.
The que behind us is getting longer. Finally a good man in the que spoke up for us. Giving a piece of his thought to the next taxi driver. Ok... the next taxi driver didn't give us this \"special treatment\", maybe because the helpful man help us first before taxi driver start the question on where is the location.
:gloomy: Give money for taxi drivers still give such attitude :?
Normally, I just held my HP and on standby, and start recording whenever a taxi stops or enter the bay. If they refuse to go to the destination, an email will be sent to the cab company.
HP video camera not very clear.. Next time I bring my video camera along when I want to take taxi? Then point the video camera at the taxi which stop to take us? :rotflmao:

tankee:
why are opposition parties so quiet about this? :?
define \"quiet\"?
What would you expect them to do..? Call press conference to debate on the issue? frankly, given the small no. of Opp MP.. not sure what they can do also.. -

Anyway, I just take note of the license plate number and the exact timing and location and email to the cab companies.comfort:
\"I refer to your email as attached and wish to extend deepest apologies for the unpleasant incident.
We view pick and choose behaviours by taxi drivers seriously. Drivers are not allowed to reject any fares so long as the taxi is available for hire. Cabbies who are en route to changing shift must display the “Shift Change” message on the rooftop display and to activate the “Busy” signage when attending to personal matters.
We have looked into the matter. The said driver was warned on the incident and firmly reminded on the serious consequences of being selective in picking up passengers. Your complaint has been filed in his service record and we will monitor his performance closely.
Once again we apologise for the frustration and inconvenience that it had caused you and your friend.
Yours sincerely

\"We refer to your email as attached.
You are right to say that our taxis are not allowed to refuse passengers while diplaying the green \"TAXI\" sign. Our drivers are given clear guidelines of the service standards expected of them, and our company will not condone any form of misconduct including picking and choosing of passengers.
As for the said driver, we will take appropraite action against him and also penalize him accordingly. This matter will also be reflected in his performance service record for us to monitor him closely.
Thank you for taking the time to write in to us. We once again apologise for this unpleasant encounter you were put through.

Raise fares already? -
if the other taxi companies don’t adjust the fare, they will lose business - i.e. taxi drivers won’t rent from them
one of the reasons why Comfort raised the fare is to attract more hirers for their taxis…they are after all a ‘car’ rental company, cars that are licensed to carry passengers for a fare -

Having multiple taxi companies is to create competition so that price will be attractive. But once the leader raise fare, the rest follow suite. Then why bother to have so many companies?if the other taxi companies don't adjust the fare, they will lose business - i.e. taxi drivers won't rent from them

spoke to many taxi drivers.. most are against the fare hike. They are more likely to be attracted to a taxi company with lower fare and lower rental.
If not for the MRT breakdown, many would have suffer drop in passengers.
And, some driver have feedback that they are seeing passengers choosing taxis.. So, the fare hike does affect businesses. -
I take the taxi almost everyday, sometimes twice a day during peak hours (yes, try calculating how much I spend per month!). I am happy they reduce the 35% down to 25% since I benefit somewhat. I am not much affected by the other changes. Speaking to taxi drivers nowadays, they are a stressed lot. They have to meet the daily rental before they can earn. Some argue that private sector working OT got 2 times or more times of income compared to normal hours. Also prices increase so much and fuel cost etc… plus inflation. Somewhat agreed with that but then again all these costs are passed on to passengers who are already complaining about rising cost of living - transport is one of them! But never will you see the main taxi company lowering rental to help - each year reporting more and more profits. I think they should not do that, already people are so pissed they still report the profits so proudly!

taxi companies are running a business and of course, profit is their top agenda.
Does increasing in taxi fare increase the take-home pay for taxi drivers or merely fattening the pockets of taxi companies? -
Riding on this thread related to taxis,
SMRT Taxis enters private-hire car market
http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/t ... car-market
Would this impact the livelihood of the current taxi drivers?
Would this caused more traffic on our roads?
