Hahas, some sort of 'honeymoon' period before the real stuff kicks in.
Yah, I also thought the 2 week orientation is sooooo long.llbros545:
Oh, the 2-weeks long CHS orientation includes CCA trials and the like + the regimental-style BURST camp facilitated by Outdoor Adventure Leaders (Sec 3s). The purpose of BURST is to allow the students to adapt to the fresh environment and allow them to make new friends, get in-tuned, etc.
And yes, OGs are not the student's classes. OGs are drawn out according to alphabetical order.
There should be about 30-35 students per Sec 1 class up till 1-9 (the sports class). -

Yes there are. In fact, I’m quite sure there’s CA1s for sec 1s in Feb too.

I remember a councillor told me during CHS Open Day that the class classification system is based on ‘strengths’, e.g. you’ll find boys with A* in the same subjects in the same class.

Yea, for our year, 1-1 was the 'English' class and 1-3 the 'Science' class. -
Didn’t know they put subject strength in same class, I will double check with DS. DS told me they kind of mix the student as his P6 friends with about same T-Score all over different classes. Even his class also have large range of T-Score.
But I am quote sure there will be a musical chair when S2 go to S3.
I can tell you it is a different ball game in S1, can throw away the T-Score. Most score will drop and slowly improve year end or some earlier. DS say many higher T-Score non CHS Pri boys even fail exam.
DS Maths and Science, I am quite happy. His other non maths/science subjects, I am not so happy.
@KiasuNotEnough
Oh, your DS is S1-7 in 2012, did he get A* for Science?
DS is S1-7 in 2011. S2-7 in 2012.
@phankao
Your DS which class? -
Yea, in sec 1, standards are raised, especially for the languages, since it’s not a subject in which you can mete out a result by burning the midnight oil, memorising mountains of content, the night before. But as you go along, I believe that there should be marked improvement. Erm for the classification of classes, I’m not exactly clear about how the system works. It seems to be minimal at best and I really doubt there is a fine distinction between the classes, if at all. The only class which I really consider not ‘mainstream’ is the sports class.

Any idea if the CHS boys will be involved in student exchange prog. & travel overseas? Sec 1 & 2 need to travel?
-
Yes, students will be involved in overseas immersion trips. For most students, it will be in sec 3, in which all students will be encouraged to sign up for an overseas immersion programme. There’s quite a spectrum of choices available, from Cambodia to UK and China as well. Students in aesthetic CCAs and sports CCAs (sec 1s and sec 2s included) also get to travel frequently to partake in overseas performances or training sessions with peers abroad, all of which promises a bountiful learning experience. Student leaders from all levels get to travel on service trips too. Lastly, students in the school-based SAP scholarship programme (not the MOE one) also get to travel to China after the EOYs.
