I'm not sure about the lunch breaks, but the principal mentioned that there will be time for us to complete some of our homework. Anyway, with or without the slots, most of us come to school earlier to finish up our homework or stay behind during recess.

hmm, about the girl guides cca, i'm not sure what are the criterias. but all interested applicants for uniform groups will go through an interview selection. and when they ask you to state which uniform group you are most interested in, in order, just say girl guides first. its pretty easy to get in.

Thanks for the info! πŸ™‚ According to you, most girls finish up their homework in the morning or during recess. Is there really so much homework? What subjects do the students take in sec 1?

About the 1 to 1 computing program thingy, what do you do with your laptops? Do you use them very often? Which also reminds me, are there lockers for the students to put their things in? Sorry for asking so many questions:p

Lastly, do you like your school life? Is it extremely stressful and competitive? Do you like the school environment? Thanks and sorry again πŸ˜„

Haha, its not every single piece of homework that we will finish it up in school. But for example, my math teacher had required my class to finish every single math homework by the next day, and sometimes we'd have ccas till late (around 7+?), so we'd just finish it up in class the next day.

The homework load in secondary 1 is the least compared to the sec 2, sec 3 and sec 4, but its definitely a lot more than primary school, and ALOT ALOT more projects haha. Sometimes after school/cca(especially after burning the midnight oil rushing projects), we'd be so tired, when we reach home, sometimes I'll just fall asleep after changing, around 7? haha.

Secondary 1s take English, Chinese, Mathematics, General Science, Geography, History, English Literature, Art for 1 term, Home Economics for 1 term, Design and technology for 1 term. There's music throughout the year, and they'll have mini projects/assignment/assessments/performances.

For the 1 to 1 computing, it kinda depends on which teacher takes you. Some teachers use it often. Like my geography teacher this year, for example. I remember my math teacher in secondary 1 didn't even use it at all. You'd visit websites/watch videos/access information/slides. There's this website called titanpad.com where you create information and many people can view and edit it at the same time. We use it in nearly every subject. Its a platform to share answers/essays and edit them too. Yes, there is a locker to put your laptops and books in. You'd have to bring your laptop home if you don't intend to lock your locker with a lock. You can leave your textbooks/worksheets under your table too. The locker is really quite big haha. You get an individual one for each person.

I wouldn't say that I absolutely love my school life. Life is definitely not a bed of roses. There'll be A LOT of ups and downs. You'll find yourself changed and a lot more matured after a while. But I quite like it haha, I wouldn't pick it over any other. It's definitely stressful. How stressful, depends on your time management and whether you let it affect you negatively. I wouldn't call it competitive. And its sort of for the better. I was never one to study in primary school. But the environment in cedar spurs you to study. Really. You'll see your classmates reading textbooks, writing notes and such. You'll start to have group studies, discussing, testing each other. You'll get really bonded by the end of secondary 2. And yes, I love the school environment. They are super supportive. I remember together with a few of my other classmates, asking my english literature teacher for extra classes after school, which he did conduct that lasted around 3 to 4 hours. My classmates would approach my math/science teachers after school to have her/him give them individual one to one sessions.[/quote]Oh, ok... Thanks:) i just have just a few more questions. What classes are there, how are you placed in your class in secondary one and is there streaming (according to abilities) ? And what exams do you take in secondary one?

Anyway, thank you so so much for the help. I think I'll be much more prepared for secondary school life in Cedar now (provided I get in) πŸ™‚

at Upper Sec 3 /4, out of 3 pure Science subjects (Physics, Chem, Bio) - which is the subject that Cedar often won competition in or strong in, amongest inter Secondary schools competition for Science?

Unfortunately, Cedar doesn't seem to take part in science competitions(or at least not that I know of), because if they did, they would announce it during morning assembly.
O levels wise, physics and biology.

There are 10 classes for your batch, C,H,A,M,P,I,O,N,S,Z. A few will be for IP pupils, S is for DSA pupils. For non IP students, they tend to put those better in math/aggregate scores in C,H,A. These classes are also given the opportunity to sit for the math olympiad test, by which if you manage to do well, you are to undergo math olympiad classes on thursdays during your math periods. There isn't exactly a 'top' class, they do mix the students around. In secondary 1, there'll be common tests on every subject - English, Chinese, Math, General Science, History, Geography, English Literature. If there's a project for that subject that term, there wouldn't be a common test for that subject for that term. For Art, Design and technology, home economics, you'll have projects to complete. There wont be any common tests for that. For home economics though, you'll have theory testing.

The fee is the same for the IP and O level, $23 per month for Singapore Citizens. You can refer to Cedar's website for more details:

Did anyone attend the briefing at Cedar Girls yesyerday? Students are to submit a copy of their NAPFA test next wk when they go back for orientation. I can’t find my dd’s NAPFA cert, only managed to see a copy with grades for sit up, etc. But it is frim her primary school. Is this what Cedar needs? Or is there another cert by NAPFA which I am not aware of?

Yes, the piece of paper usually found in the report book which shows the grades for sit ups, shuttle run etc and the overall grade attained (i.e. bronze, silver or gold).

Ask your DD to check with the prefect councillors during the orientation next week. They should be able to give a more accurate answer.
