oldmummy:
Hi oldmummy, my dd is going to DHS and we are in AMK. I have talked to the bus operator, and though the buses are full, he is trying to organise another small bus and will get back to us. He says pick up time is after 6.30am. May I know if you are waiting for news for the school bus also? In the meantime, we are going to try out the mrt route in the next few days. From SMRT's site, the route Pen88n mentioned seems to take about 30 minutes from YCK MRT to Mountbatten. I am hoping this has the added advantage in that the children can read while on the train (my older kids used to do that). Merry Christmas to your family.Hi
My dd will be joining DHS next year. We are staying in Yishun. Just wondering if there are any stus staying in Yishun as I am looking for some stus to form a carpool. We tried out the Yishun to Cityhall, transfer to Aljunied station and then take bus 158 to school route. It takes about 70 minutes from point to point. It is indeed very tiring and time consuming. If we can form a car pool, then we can save time and money. Please pm me if there is anyone interested. Thanks. -

How does Dunman select students for SBGE classes? Is it for only the GEP? Or for students of what range of PSLE T-score? Please kindly advise. Thanks.
The SBGE classes not only for the GEP pupils, also consisting of pupils with 27X agg score in Psle.carebear:
thank you for the info. What does SBGE stands for? Higher ability classes?
SBGE = school based gifted education
For my gal yr, not ALL 27X were placed in the SBGE classes,
some were placed in my gal's class, perhaps of over-capacity.
But often, pple perceive that as if only pupils who are not eligible for scaling the Top mountain are found here .......
sound so pathetic after reading....

Pen88n:
pen88n, guess u 're good in \" manoeuvre ard in SG in MRT\" :salute:
Even if you are having a car pool in the morning, you may want to note a shorter route (maybe your DD may use after school when returning home):
1) MRT NS Line Yishun to Bishan, then transfer to MRT Circle Line (10mins+3 mins walk to Circle Line)
2) MRT Circle Line Bishan to Mountbattan (17mins)
3) Take bus 158 from outside MRT Mountbattan station (8mins)
I think this is a shorter route than what you have mentioned. Hope this helps.
After 2 yrs in DHS, shame to say that i have the faintest idea when parents asked me abt how to get to DHS with public transport. -
WeiHan:
Actually, the MOE is acting as a referee, I don't think MOE will allow any school to gain extra advantage by recruiting more \"foreign talent\" students to boost the school result. For all we know, VJC, NJC top students list are also fill with many PRC and Vietnamese scholars.
Yup, there are scholars fr PRC, india and vietnam in all these IP and some non IP schs.
Is there any max quota for it ?? if yes, what is the estimated figure ? -

Juz to add on to what langmum had replied u........
Regarding abt the textbooks and notes, pl refer to the my posting below.Augmum:
I am not sure abt yr batch in 2012, as for my gal yr,
Regarding abt textbks, let's me share with u all what i have observed fr my gal.Monica Yeoh:
My DD got in too. queue for textbooks is so long, will get from popular retail. Heard some parents said that DHS will provide a lot of notes and homework, so no time to study textbooks, in other words, dont waste money buy textbooks.
Can someone share whether this is true ?
For Maths, u dont need the textbks.
DHS has its own compiled DHP workbooks.
In addition, the Maths teachers teach very well (at least for my gal's both Maths teachers),
u dont need the maths textbks, unless u wanna to use it for self reference.
same for science textbks. pupils are given lots of notes for science, esp Bio, downloadable.
if u want, u can used the science textbk as a backup.
as for Lit and history, amount of notes would depend on the teachers.
if u're lucky, u would get more notes than other classes.
but i suppose, my gal was not so lucky then.......
for geog and HCL, again lots of notes.....
geog for sec1 , gal said that teachers did refer to them, but not for sec2.
as for me, i did buy all the textbooks except for Maths textbk.
she said that she proceeded to the hall on the first day and looked for the class ( u shd know yr class allocation by now ).
The canteen sells a variety of food, ranging fr $1.30 or so but ave food is fr $1.50 to $2,
Japanese food would cost more.
If u eat at the library cafe, it will cost more too......
U can use the same calculator as pri sch.
What kind of schbags ?? Mainly haversacks.....
Sch shoes....mainly track shoes with at least abt 70% white......
no ankle socks, but some pupils still put on,
when during \" inspections\" they will try to use all their might to pull their socks up ....haha -
