Yalor.. ..and some costly but totally not worth it.. ..
I reckon it is more fun and cozy to have at home if there are willing and good cooks. Potlucks, panchai and steamboat sounds good to me too.. 😄
But for those who preferred 'fuss free' and 'hi-bye' for whatever reasons.. eating out is easier..

The problem is where to find willing and good cooks.

for many years we did the eat out

like in a duck farm, chased in and chased out due to the time slot, and it was all hi-bye kind of reunion dinner

this year we decided to change and persuaded the elders for a change in protocol

it shall be at my house and the menu was just finalised recently

will have fire-works, sparkles etc for the kids

and the number of items for makan plus lohei etc last counted … at least 18 …

Wow verykiasu2010.. ...18 dishes on the menu!

For me we used to do 2 places, early dinner and late dinner.. ..
Just the parents for earlier meal and later in-laws and a BIL..
MIL's ran out of ideas and kept giving us not fully cooked food last couple of years.. ..
Before my DS say salah thing I suggested we eat out this year.. 😓

that's because CNY is earlier than usual

not only that, food & service tend to be not of usual standard.

Exactly, the food standard really dropped during the festive season.

This year, elders decided not to cook cos said too tired liao…Anyway, still not finalised to eat out or not.To me, its not so much on eating, its the once a year reunion dinner…Pot luck is fine but the elders want to bao everything cos this is something that she is proud off…yet do not want to let go to the younger generations when proposed to pot luck…

We have been doing double dinner for the pass 20 over yrs way before we got married (btw, ain’t the old ok… Met my other half since 16:P ). We have requested for best dishes (quality rather than quantity) to minimise wastages.
