I was told CCA is not compulsory for GEP kids. Because they generally have longer school hours due to GEP programme & on top of that some are selected for additional training like Maths Olympiad, etc.

So I’ve decided no CCA for my dd. She’s busy enough, need stay back in school 2 to 3 times each week & need to practise her instrument regularly at home, really no time for ‘optional’ CCA

Hi Sleepy, is this true (CCA not compulsory for GEP students) for all schools or are you referring only to your DD's school ? If you don't mind me asking, how did you learn about this - during GEP briefing ?

Sorry I asked for info as my DS is also busy with his piano activities (he has private as well as Yamaha lessons which is 2x a week). he doesnt want to give up or reduce his piano lessons as he loves them and is doing well. If there is an option not to take CCA, we will seriously consider opting out too.

Thank you so much for sharing !

Hi, my DS is also going Nan Hua next yr, kindly add me to the list. We r residing in cck north, also facing a big problem with the sch bus timing. We were told the timing cld be as early as 5.50am!

Am keen to share cab/carpool so that son does not need to get up so early.

We spoke to a teacher at the booth on the day of the briefing. According to that teacher, CCA is strongly encouraged but not compulsory.
That same teacher also told us compulsory to stay back in school twice to thrice a week on extended hours. Hence, so relieved to hear that CCA is optional. Otherwise really too tiring!

However, I heard from my friend subsequently that school like Nanyang extended their lesson time to 1:30pm everyday instead of extended school hours on certain days. So I presume it is different from schools to schools.

Well it's definitely not true for some GEP centres. Which school is your dd in?

Hi, I am new. Have been lurking reading your posts!

My son got into Rosyth. When we visited the holding site in AMK, we were told that there will be no orientation due to having just moved in. Was told to buy books, uniforms and turn up at the porch on the 3rd next month. When we got home, we realized that we didn't buy the report book and order the embroidered name for school shirt. So that's going to be another trip.

                Hope this helps.

Does anyone know how many classes there will be for GEP next year for P4? And also how many kids from Rosyth got into GEP? Just curious...!

                Cheers

HI FadedGlory... just saw yr posting. Dun know why I hv missed it !

                Hi FadedGlory n Just4Fun,

My ds is from RS too. I've no idea how many students from RS got into GEP. According to ds, there are 12 from his class.

Does anyone know when the GEP orientation will be held in NH? What should we bring on the first day to school? All the text books?

Ya, we are also wondering because the school never send us any info but will be taking half day to bring DS2, just in case. Most likely, we will take all textbooks & some exercise books.

They didn't send a later? ACSP sent a letter telling us about day 1 to bring , to do, and the class.
