RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
Thank you, Song22, for pointing out the calendar.
@7788, thank you for clarifying on the exam dates. Does that mean that only humanities subjects have exams? Other subjects (like Math and Science) will only have CTs? -
RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
Hi,
I was looking for a calendar of events in HCI website but could not find any. Is there such a calendar where all school events and exam dates are stated? If yes, could someone guide me to the right place.
Otherwise, could some experienced parents advise on whether SA1 is in Apr or May? What about SA2? I heard that SA2 is in August? Isnβt that a bit early? Would really appreciate if some parents could clarify. DS is in year1, so I am rather clueless.
Thank you. -

Correct me if I am wrong. I think you are referring to the P4 'Mathematics is around us' competition. It is open to all P4 students, not just GEP. It can be an individual work or a team of not more than 3 members. It can be a written report or a poster.Just4Fun:
Oh sorry i forgot. It is actually this group work where your group has too analyze a daily problem in Math. It has to concern everyone, be useful and the problem cannot be researched before. You can submit it in poster form or in written form. It is from NUS.
Is this project for P4 GEP? -

Your words are my pillar of strength. Felt so much better after reading your post. I am a worrier. Guess I have to adjust my expectations as well. Million thanks to you. :thankyou:
I am sure your boy is fine, & the time taken will be shorter when he gets better. Don't worry too much ok?

... \"speak good english\"project. Dateline for 1st draft is 6th March. But according to the letter from sch, its a individual project.
Ds received the 'speak good english' project from his teacher yesterday. According to ds (and like what Blessmum4 said), it's an individual project. Anyway, I've told ds to confirm with teacher again - whether it's an individual or group project.
It's an Information Report based on the Speak Good English Movement. Three deadlines given to submit 1st and 2nd drafts, then the final report.E3:

[quote=\"sleepyWhat is oral history project?
So far only aware of 2 projects. One on family tree, the other is photo journal.
Photo journal only spend 30 minutes. Done!
Gosh, maybe my dd didn't spend sufficient time researching :nailbite:
The family tree is part of the Oral History Project.
Ds is not a natural writer so he needs a longer time to come out with a decent piece of work. The scrapbook itself already took him half a day. -
RE: All About GEP
Dear Flowermonaster and 'a child',
Thanks for the encouragement. It's comforting to know that ds may not be the only one struggling. Hope ds will adapt well and survive P4.
Ds is also involve in SYF. In fact, he has 2 ccas. On a typical week, he has to stay back 4 days in school till 4pm (excluding Sat training for SYF). He's reluctant to give up any of his ccas. So I have to stop his external piano lesson instead. Will be stopping his other external sports activity too. He's really upset with what I'm doing but I kept telling him that he has too much on his plate and that he needed rest and play time too. Haha! Not sure if I'm doing the right thing. :xedfingers: -

a child:
Dear a child, it's great to hear from you again. It's always heartening to hear a child's perspective. I hope my ds has your mindset.Hello, I'm an ex-gepper just dropping by.
I'd like to say that as children we're extremely adaptable and most are able to cope well even with projects + external exams, etc. . . . every single of those late nights and projects we had to slog through, we really learnt a lot.
Have faith. Have faith in the program, the teachers, and us, your children. If your children have been selected, that means they have the potential to do it. . . . . .
Ds is only into the program for 2 mths and has been buring the mignight oil to complete the projects. He has no problem with the daily worksheets or homework but is stress out by the projects - the oral history and photo journal in P4. To do a relatively good piece of work, these projects require some level of reseach - which is taking too much of his time. I wonder if we are on the right track or are we doing too much for a P4 level?
He took back his oral history write up recently and was surprisingly delighted when the teacher requested for a copy of his work to be kept as teaching material for future students. His effort paid off but it's taking a toll on his health as he is getting more sickly recently.
I was hoping that this is just a transition period and that he will manage his time better as he adapt to the program. But looking at the comments from P5 and P6 parents, I don't think it's going to be better. I wonder how are the other P4 kids managing? Is it only my boy who's struggling? Does that mean he's not suitable for the program? -

Hi Drickymummy, what is this English project about? Never hear Ds mention about an English group project, other than the photo journal and the ERP book review which is due in April. Can share?
... It's the eng group project that I am worried abt..the first draft deadline is next wed.. but those kids seems so messy in their flow of the process ...Hopefully after the first draft submission they will learn to be better in keeping up with proper meetings and no a quick 5 mins yes/no kind of meetings and rush to do the next step... any parents with older kids who had done this before? there are 3 deadlines with final submission in April..I think there are more stuff to be added along the way other than what's required in the letter..any info to share? Thanks!
