Went to 112 Katong & saw Xue Lin there. The school will start lessons Jan next year. Their fees are higher than other centres $550 for 10 lessons. And if you take 作文 class, that will be $1100 for 1 term.
Hi Amomm, did your friends’ kids take both paper 2 & 作文 classes? Thanks -
Erm… They also have one centre in jurong east… Any feedback??
-
Hi Shan, yes, my friend’s kids have both paper 2 & 作文 classes with Xuelin. I didn’t meet the lady boss but I met Wang Lao Shi. I am very impressed with her, she definately know her stuffs. I am sending my 2 kids to them, my P4 will do both classes, P2 has only the paper 2 class.

Thanks, amomm. Will consider to let my P5 boy try at 112 Katong branch.

Thank you for your review! So happy that Xue Lin is starting to have some good reviews! Any feedback on how they teach? Is it a fun environment, that kids enjoy learning Chinese?
My daughter will be attending berries and Xue Lin next yr. hope that it will really help her Chinese, cos no one at home can help her!
My daughter and son are attending Xue Lin, my daughter (P3 this year) attended their holiday camp last dec and had a wonderful time.
Their Katong branch Tel: 6636 3622.
I do not mind the fee as I don't want to waste my children's time or attend classes that may kill their interest in Chinese.

Can anyone advise whether there is any HW attending Xuelin? How is the material? Heard that students need to read newspaper. How is the teacher?
-
No HW but still need to open their files, very good materials. Some friends also recommend me to send my children to Xuelin. Still thinking about it because of distance, maybe after ca1. Have been to both Bukit Timah (stay for an hour and more)and Katong, spoken to their parents and students too. Very impressed as I heard only good feedbacks including they do not mind their fees. My greatest impression is the trust and confidence parents (2 parents do the "marketing")have as well as the happy and confidence students in Xuelin.

Hello
My N2 daughter has been attending both Berries and Xue Lin for 1 mth now. I want her to attend chinese class twice a week, as no one speaks chinese at home.
The materials for both are pretty much the same, and complimentary. Even the exercises during the lesson. Berries teach 1 idioms per week. Xue Lin does not.
Berries have a proper books - one for the new words learnt and the other is a workbook with exercises. There is a page for the teacher to award stickers, if the kid reads well. My daughter was super happy to be awarded 3 stickers on the 2nd lesson. Also, Berries has a CD of the lesson to be used at home, that I play every morning. My daughter loves listening to it and dances to the songs or rhymes!
Xue Lin makes their own little booklets (a couple of A4 paper folded in half) with the new words learnt and exercises all in 1 book. I have not seen anything special abt Xue Lin so far, other than I really like that there are only 2 kids in the class and the teacher gives a lot of attention to my daughter. There are more than 10 kids in berries. The teacher has been teaching her since n1, so there is good rapport w the kids.
So far, I think it’s a good combination of berries and Xue Lin. I will continue this combination for this yr. -
As our main communication language is English, we are also worry about our daughter having difficulty to learn and dislike Chinese language.
So, we send her to xue Lin @ Bt timah branch when she was in k1. In k1, they were taught sentence patterns and were also given newspaper cuttings to develop their interest in reading.
I liked their small class size, max 8 kids only! And her teachers are really caring and spontaneous. After attending a few lessons, we can see her improvement in recognition of Chinese characters and she can even write them.
Now, she is in their k2 class and she learns to read simple Chinese essays already. She tends to communicate in mandarin more often and can even read Chinese story books by herself! She has also feedback to me that she love to go xue Lin and has loads of fun in the class.
So, I guess it is worthwhile! :rahrah: -
I agree that Xuelin is good, their materials are quite difficult but if you start your child there from a younger age, then it would be more beneficial. My kids had pte one to one tuition and Xuelin tuition. I felt both were necessary for them to do well. Sometimes, if your child is not that strong, group tuition alone cannot help but one to one tuition may not have the materials and resources of gp tuition so sometimes both are needed in order to get at least an A.
