Not bad! *clapclapclapclap* sorry being lame. Anyway, those are considered quite high grades and you are obviously able to sight read and you should have some sense of pitch and knowledge of music to be able to understand the conductor. However, ensemble playing is not just about musicality, it requires teamwork and the ability to learn quickly
Hence the need for the interview as well, Ringers wants to know whether you can fit in. Based on your music background you should def try out though.

Hello shall tell you my very sad sad story as a cautionary tale
Yes, you can sign up for as many as you want. It depends, but people usually sign up for around...4-5? If you don't get any CCA, RGS just puts you in a random CCA that has vacancies left, usually NCC. If not, it will tell you which CCA still has vacancies, and you can go and try(some PAs still have vacancies sometimes). But if you still don't get in, then most likely end up with a UG CCA(other than guides...)Choco05:
Um, you can sign up for as many cca trials and auditions etc as you want right, just that you should only choose one core right? Around how many ccas to people usually apply for? And what happens if you don't get any of the ccas you applied for, since RGS says it's compulsory to have a cca?
Thanks!
Regarding this, bananamonster has experience! I think she didn't get in any, but ended up in a PA CCA after trials for the remaining vacancies.
Okay the problem with me is that I was a very stubborn and overconfident Year One. I refused to trial for any CCA I thought was not great enough. This is not good.
So I tried for only 4 CCAs. I didn't get into any CCAs. The CCA Teacher I/C will probably meet the girls who haven't got any CCA sometime in Feb or late Jan, I can't remember. She'll try to put you in any CCA that has vacancies left. This is how I almost ended up in NCC. There's nothing wrong with NCC really but I'm not a march-and-do-physical-training sort of person so I was really scared.
The teacher looked at me and she said \"Are you sure you can do NCC?\" because I look like a soft tofu haha. So I told her I could do something musical. At the time I had Grade 8 Piano and Theory so I tried to keep emphasising that (desperate times call for desperate measures). So she told me that Handbells had vacancies, and told me about their second trial.
I did very badly during the trials I think but they still decided to accept me! Yay! Forever indebted to Handbells. Anyway the moral of this story is that you're not supposed to be all arrogant and insist that you only want to try for one CCA
Remember, always have a Plan B/C/Z!
Yes that's the end of my story, I'm not very good at compos and stuff so forgive me if it bored you to death :D
haha what's so bad about a uniformed group!!
i'm in a uniformed group (Girls' Brigade), i have quite a few friends in uniformed groups and really they are all nice people, very devoted to their juniors....
and well I wanted to join Girls' Brigade and didn't bother trying out for anything else. whatever it is, just go for trials with an open mind, and whatever CCA you get into, just accept it as well
was reading back a few threads about someone wanting to go for 2 core CCAs -- for me I would strongly discourage it. I had a core and a merit CCA and already cannot tahan...(but ok, maybe it was due to my double commitments in 2 lead boards ><). and i don't take a 3rd lang too! i still felt that i couldn't cope with it, so i left my merit CCA at the start of Sec 3. so for 2 core CCAs (and both sports...) I would strongly discourage it. academics gets heavier each year, and it's hard to juggle that... -
kcym:
Haha are you my senior? I'm doing 2 CCAs (1 merit 1 core), 2 leadboards, and yeah. I think 2 CCAs is fine, it's all about your time management and I haven't really started life on leadboards so I don't know.

a child:
choose what you want to eat to save $$$ then
I personally think that in Sec school the kid should know how to manage money properly. My parents give money monthly. But for a better gauge - during the Poise and Confidence module of Aesthetics where we're told how to act proper and lady-like and everything, the teacher once asked how frequently parents gave money to kids. Most do it weekly.Choco05:
Food is more expensive than in pri sch, about $1.50++ i think. Cannot remember prices
How much pocket money will depend on how much your child needs. Careful though! Some people cannot resist to spend their money all at one go, so :moneyflies: :moneyflies: Like my brother, if you give him pocket money on a weekly basis, he'll finish it all on the 1st day. So it's better to give some people day by day basis.
And to say that canteen food is more expensive is an understatement. It's much more expensive. In primary school you could get rice plus veggie plus meat for like $1.20. In secondary school that's like $1.80. And for the Japanese store, a meal could be costing ~$4.50. :moneyflies: And besides the canteen food's quality is not too good, so on days with early dismissal and there's a 1h-1.5h break in between, sometimes we go to Far East/Ion for lunch. :moneyflies: :moneyflies: :moneyflies: So I guess the money allocated per week would be much more than in primary school. Maybe $20-$30/week excluding transport is sufficient, some friends get that, but obviously there are also kids who get a lot more money. However, I think $20-$30 should be sufficient for food.
the japanese food wipes out your money really fast. buy from the malay food stall (nicest food in the whole canteen for me), prices are good, portion not bad also!! their mee siam is my favourite (i think it's $1.60 or $1.80?) haha and the aunty is so nice!!
a good gauge would be ~$2 per meal (hey i survive on that amount of money and it allows me to buy noodles and fruit haha) so yup I agree with the $20-$30 a week
and yes yes RGS girls like to go out to eat. wanton mee at far east!!!
and frozen yoghurt! so give a little extra $$$ for that

ohdear better pull up your math in lower sec, when you reach upper sec you'll find that math gets even tougher... -

Haha I think 2 cores should be possible, especially since there are people (whom many of us know, I think) who take 4 CCAs.
I took 2 Cores + 1 Merit, and then dropped the Sports CCA due to asthma. Itโs perfectly cope-able. Well โฆ My English standard is not too good so maybe thatโs compensation.
Hmmm in the primary school GEP thread there was this kid who said she thinks she knows me. โFanxingโ? Haha if youโre on this thread or if someone in this thread knows herโฆ Hmmm Iโm wondering. Cos I mean some writing styles are very distinctive, like โbananamonsterโ's, whom I wouldโve figured even without the obvious nickname and obvious clues. But โfanxingโ only posted one sentence

The resources around me are not reliable. Not even the best one.
