Phew! No more PSLE kids for me after this :boogie: .


I only discovered this forum after the PSLE and realise that a whole new world has dawned while I :snooze: . Unbelievable, still trying to read all the pages and :faint: . Must take this opportunity to thank all you unselfish parents for sharing your insights, experience and methology. When did parenting become so difficult?

Half the time, I think 'cannot be lah', since ds 1,2 (in unis) and 3 all went through pretty ok on their own what, greatest hurdle being BGR...... (like ksi said). The other half of the time, I think, \"No wonder no one wants to have kids anymore!\"

I have sort of decided to let dd cruise like her siblings, but keep one eye opened. But..........grandkids cham liao!!! Must watch and wait for Kiasugrandparents forum.

Choy! Haha.... CKS will make sure it's open earlier. His DD only gg p1 next year but he founded KSP a few years back. So his DD come out to work, he will yearn for grandkids and form a KSGP forum quickly to learn tips on how to be a grandpa haha hope he won't :spank: me

I am just curious if there are sufficient vacancies in the top JCs (eg RJC, VJC, TJC, HCI etc) for those who enter after taking O levels, given the current IP setting.

If the IPs schools have their own existing students progressing from Year 4 (Sec 4) to JC 1 & 2, I suppose then there are not many left. I think 20% of the vacancies are for those not from RGS & RI (if I'm right). That is also perhaps the reason parents want their kids to go into RGS or RI or one of the IP schools

If many more schools become IP, there are not many JCs vacancies left for the O levels kids. Therefore, these kids will probably end up in Poly. I'm not against poly but this may not be what the kids want to be in.

I was hoping my kids can go into an IP for the reason that there may not be many vacancies left in JCs. My kids will most probably not going to the poly if they cant get into the JCs, that leaves us with one choice, that is to go overseas. It's ashamed (assuming) that a child gets 10 to 15 points and cant get into a JC and end up in a college and uni overseas. I believe the government is risking losing these kids (not coming back)..... sorry..... looks like i think so far and deviates from the original context :evil:

for HCI, there are 450 boys from HCI (high school) year 4 and 450 girls from NYGH, making a total of 900. therefore it is estimated 300 are vacancies for O level intake. hence 300/1200 = 25%

Thanks for the info … i supposed the number of vacancies should be good enough for the better students to go in.

I am sharing this experience as an alternative view that sometimes we may not know what magic such schedule can do for us. When pushed to our limits, the unknown side of us surfaced. I actually got to know myself better in that year and I never fell sick throughout the ordeal. The lesson I derived from this experience was priceless and left indelible memories of my best days in school. Everyday I share with my child, don't underestimate the steel under herself.


But of course I must qualify....those might be deemed as the days that \"mata wear shorts\" days when I was receiving my sec education....so please read this with a pinch of salt as an alternative view.

I was a fat potato in secondary school and never been good at Math. :udawoman: I also think you speak like a true sportswoman. My DD sometimes says this too. I don't think this aspect has changed from the time mata wore shorts Your sharing did effectively round out the discussion somewhat so that people can get a more accurate view of the joyful demands of being a sportswoman.

Please don't me me shy leh..... :oops: :oops: :oops:
I hesitated in sharing at first because I thought it was not quite appropriate given that:
(1) it happened so long ago.............so many things have changed by 2011.
(2) I never had the same stress as kids who entered with DSA; the demands were largely self-imposed, not a contract with the school
(3) I was \"gong gong\"....not much thoughts in my mind except to win the trophy...............kids today have much more brain power.
