From my observations, in SOME cases, it is the parents who relentlessly telling their kids
that they “die die” also must enter what they termed as the Best sec schs and accept nothing else.
This might directly or indirectly making the kids feel much worse, inferior and with low self-worth
when they are unsuccessful in their 1st choice schs, even prior to start schooling in the posted schs.

Yes, some may argue that all parents want the Best for their children,
But have we think abt what is best for the parents may not be necessarily best for the kids themselves ??

This is interesting. Coincidentally, I read of a child who wanted very much to go to school A but the mother insisted she MUST go to school B. The mother can really come out with all sort of justifications to choose B. School B happens to have a higher COP than school A but really both are excellent schools. So the child went to school B.

this reminds me of that yr when we needed to make the decision for our 1 st choice.
initially, i had my thinking of another choiced sch......
but in my heart, i knew that my gal preferred DHS
as she had attended its openhouse and already felt the sense of belonging here.
though she did not against my choice but in the end, i decided to go with her heart.
since she is the one who is schooling, not me......

Can I know how many CCAs does the kid need to take in DHS? 1 core and any merit CCA? Also, how do we know which are the core and which are the merit CCAs?

1 core CCA will do .

during the CCA orientation wk, there will be briefing on these CCA avail.
CHAMPS CCA are core CCAs whereaas the STARS CCA are non-core CCAs.
Sports and Games, UG and Performing Arts are under CHAMPS
and most clubs and societies are under STARS CCAs.
i said \"most\" becos there are some clubs/ societies can still be considered under core....
( i am not too sure which are the ones)

btw, is yr dd/ds in DHS ??

This yr classes not allocated yet. Supposed to be allocated only when sch starts on 3 Jan.

Hi Pen88n, my DD will be in S1 next year.
At the orientation, I remembered the principal saying that between 1 and 3 of Jan, we can check the school website for class allocation.

no wonder i read yr posting on the advice on the transportation to DHS.

check the sch website regularly, the allocation of classes could come in earlier than 3 jan ( i mean perhaps fr 1-3 jan).

oh yes, pupils are given 2 choices of PA, and 2 choices of UG to fill in the online CCA option. (if no changes like the past)

we are told that they are randomly placed.....but i suspect something.
this is becos, fr my observation of my gal's class, there is a \"striking of a balance\"
in a way, there are the 27X and also those dsa via sports 24X,
or isit co-incident ??
other classes, dont seems to hear 27X, except the 2 SBGE classes.

yes, CCA has auditions and trials, some with interviews.
CCA orientation is after the sch orientation, think shd be sec wk of Jan.

the sch orientation shd be very fun and enjoyable, esp the last nite.......
the pupils will feel high.....haha
