Travel : Vietnam - Hanoi with 2E2A3C

I’m planning a trip to Hanoi with my elderly parents, my DH and my 3 primary school kids mid Dec 2011 F&E for 6D5N.
Anyone can advise :-
1) weather - what kind of clothes?
2) places to visit?
3) how to arrange for transfer?
4) commuting around there?
5) food?
6) any other things I need to look out for? -
Halong bay cruise is a must, relaxing cruise for the entire family.

Is half a day enough for Halong bay cruise?

Nope, half day is not enough. The journey itself from Hanoi city to Halong bay takes about 2 hours.
Best is if you can spend 2 days in Halong bay, than you must take the overnight Bhaya cruise. Loads of things to do, kayaking, morning taichi on deck etc.
