that is because they feel aggrieved being used as a back up year after year
True. Can see HCI really treat the directive seriously all the way. Mentioned it in their symposium etc. I guess their message is: when you exercise my option, you can't run away to the other mountain so easily after PSLE, so don't pray pray anyhow exercise. Upfront and very clearSnow Crystal:

it is interesting to note that the schools that used to experience \"requests to leave\" after PSLE result was released were the one putting up notices up front this year saying there is no transferred allowed as per MOE directive, while other schools have not said so
just a personal observation
if they improve some aspects of the DSA process, they should be able to keep more and lose less of the CO students, but anyway this year they resort to \"no transfer\".....in years past, they don't even bother to know who wanted out - the clerk at the admin just stamp and sign the transfer forms
for example in 2010 DSA year (2011 Sec 1) quite a number of parents were told conflicting info on some of the processes/outcome and the parents felt insecure and hence applied DSA elsewhere as a back up. these were the parents I personally know and would not have applied elsewhere if the admin from HCI have been upfront. these parents literally scrambled on the last day of RI DSA submission to apply and luckily got CO from RI (both phase 1 DSA and supp intake (appeal))
I think HCI is really good school except no MRT nearby, why so many ppl prefer the other mountain? -

friendship, if going by yr reasoning.......ycpang:
In Sec Sch book, it stated Dunman High and NJC have similar COP 258 for 2010. First choice RGS, 2nd choice DHS because of better traffic , NJC 3rd choice. Much dissapointment NJC maintains at 258, DHS lowers to 256. Being kiasu, appeal to 2 schools RGS and NJC. Who knows today received from both schools the good news. If DHS remains 258 COP, i won't appeal for NJC.
So next year if DHS' COP goes up and RGS' goes down, will u transfer back to DHS? lol
i suppose ALL DHS 2012 sec1 batch shd transfer out of DHS lorr.....LOL
in addition, u would be busy every yr running ard the schs, if next yr, RGS would to drop a point back to 260,
then u would have to transfer to another sch whose COP increases or maintain
btw, the COP for both DHS n NJC were at 257 last yr,
so there was a drop of 1 point this yr to 256, not 2 pts as what u have stated.
this drop is well within most pple expectations becos of VS-Cedar IP,
arent u expect that too.....?? as what u had posted in DHS thread.friendship:
It is OK for us to accept the principal's speech with chinese and english. What to do, cannot go to top mountain, now have to scale a slightly lower peak mountain. Why is COP for Dunman High is low this year? Is the school standard dropping? didn't have the chance to talk to any staff because rushing to rgs and njc to submit the appeal forms.
friendship:
U didnt get yr facts right.
Fully agree with Augmum. That's what I have suspected because of Cedar and VS IP.
President Scholar after 6 years only emerged from RJC and Hwa Chong.
NJC, VJC, and DHS never heard of. -
Anyone know how many students appealed and how many did NJC accept during this appeal exercise?
-
I wonder, is secondary school life tougher than P6 life?

My DSβs fren parent called up RI this morning & was told appeal UNSUCCESSFUL for DSA CO high 26X (accepted HCI CO earlier). Admin staff said RI has tried their very best but MOE disapproved transfer. Claimed that letters has been send out (but they hvnt receive yetβ¦) & will refund e $20.

MOE has to approve all the transfers?
So the process is
a) School select the student.
b) Sent to Moe for approval. MOE approves, school inform student. If Moe donβt approve, school selects another student.
Does MOE set the criteria of transfer? by merit? If so, is there a cap of the points? -
33mama:
The role of MOE comes into picture for only DSA CO cases who appealed for transfer. This year, MOE clampled tightly in this rule. But for S1 appeal cases, schools will have their own criteria for appeal selection - Academic, Art, Sports, Special talents, PSLE marks.... I think MOE approves all such cases.MOE has to approve all the transfers?

Thanks for letting us know. So, looks like RI, despite being an independent school, does not have the right to make final decision? Still need to go through MOE.

DSA CO transfer does not involve RI alone.Chandelier:

The school the students was posted to is also involved.
If the school cannot release the student even if RI wants to accept also no us.
