My son is in P3 now, I used to give him $2 per day for P1 and notice that he always run to the bookshop with the excess money so i cut down to $1.50/day which is enough for his purchase of food and snack as usually he will drink from his water bottle

            Hi all,

May I ask if we can only stay in the school for the P1 students for the first day only?

Hihi, my girl will be in class 1 flexibility next year…

She is quite out-going in her school but when I ask her to buy food in foodcourt or when we went for the orientation at the school canteen, she became a mouse. Very worried for her. She said that she doesn’t want to buy food from the canteen, she wants to save her pocket money and asked us to pack bread for her to bring to school everyday…

Don't worry too much, I'm sure your girl will soon find out how wonderful it'll be to get her own food soon.

I think her motivation to speak up to buy things will come from her visits to the school bookshop but not sure if I want to entice her with that to learn. My niece bought a lot of pens, pencils, sharpener etc. 😓

not to worry. she'll soon recover.

coming from a kindergarten smaller size class to a big school premises compound with so many other P1 children on orientation day suddenly ... kind of overwhelm her, hence she said all that. It's just like we feel uncomfortable when we start work on our first day at work, meeting our bosses & fellow colleagues in an unfamiliar environment.

give her sometime to adapt. once she get familiar with her form teachers, her classmates' faces whom she see daily, she'll warm up, go back to her usual self - chatty & confident again. 😂

check out the canteen food quality in school. maybe good to pack some sandwiches (not plain bread) for her with ham, sausage, egg, tuna, cheese, lettuce etc. other days once a while, let her bring a warm flask that can keep long hours hot inside got piping hot, delicious home cooked food for recess. also pack something light for her to eat, on her way home inside the school bus, in case she hungry during journey home.

tell her don't buy so much stationery from school bookshop, because at home so many already. Ask her to show you how many rubbers, pencils, sharpener, ruler she already had purchased to date. because classmates tend to pull one another to the bookshop, after makan during recess.
