I guess it will be good. There is a compulsory eye-check in Kindergarten but if you go for eye-check earlier, you can find out if there are problems that you need to address.

We found out by accident that DS1 has high astigmatism when he was 3. He is now wearing glasses to help him see better and as a prevention against lazy eye. We would not have known if we didn't bring him to see eye specalist for what we thought was eye infection. His eye-sight might have worsen by K1 if we did not find out early.

We suspected that DD had an eye problem when she was about 3 (can't remember exactly). Since we had to bring her for her health checkup with the pediatrician, we asked for her eyes to be checked too. Turned out that it wasn't anything to worry about, especially since later at 5 and 6 yo, the \"official\" checkup at her CCC said she had no eye problems.

vfong1, this depends on your gutfeel if they do have an eyesight problems. My gals have had them the year they turn 5. Compulsory testing at kindergarten.

I've high myopia and astigs so they are all high-risk. Recently #1 went for a refractive eye test since we found her to be squinting; and wanted to ensure that it'd not be a problem in her SA2 - turned out that she was fine and that her squint was because she'd got an undeveloped nosebridge and her eyes seem wider apart than normal...we're going to do a yearly thing and monitor her closely.

I guess there's no right or wrong age for a test, as a parent, you'd know if something is wrong - and no amount of science or testing can tell you otherwise.

Can you explain what is progressive lens and is it same as positive lense? Anyone experiencing improvement using this lens? Are these lens need prescription and where can get these lens?

Also, Guardian is selling the pinhole glasses and this type of glasses can be used to correct minor degree of myopia and astig. Anyone heard of it or tried using it?

Please advise as my children failed for eye test during 4 years old assessment and I am very worry about thier eye condition.

Sorry, I really dunno what it is called. Maybe the next time I visit that optician, I'll ask her.

But I understand that it's a multi-focal lens, ie, at different part of the lens, the 'degree' is different. To me, it's somewhat similar my own 'progressive' lens which I am using for my myopia and far-sightedness. So when my boy is reading or doing some near field work, he uses the lower part of the lens which has lesser correction. For long distance, the upper part of the lens will give him normal correction.

My boy started on glasses in K2 and increased abt 50deg yearly until P3/4. Currently, with this lens, it kinda stabilised at under 400deg.

Personally, I don't think it's good to have full correct, esp for kids. I started on glesses in P2. Those days, few children wear specs so I avoid using them and sat maybe 3 rows from the front - still can read the blackboard.

When I got to sec1, I was still ard 150deg or so. not much increase over that 4~5 yrs!!
But coz need to see bus no., no choice but to wear. From there, it added abt 50deg every yr until my NS. I'm now abt 500(R) and 550(L).

I did not buy it but tried it at Guardian. Surprisingly, I could see without my glasses! My degree: 800 (R) & 600 (L). Astig is 175 each side.

But it's too ugly for me to wear at home. My boy was scared of me when I put it on

I notice quite a number of posting here asking about the effectiveness of eye relax. Let me share my experience…


My 6 yo son visited HPB on 29 Sep and was prescibed with specs - 75 deg on each eye plus astig of 50 deg. Got him a pair of specs as prescribed and an eye relax 2 device as well. It came with an eye chart to monitor improvement. His eyesight was recorded as 0.6 or abt 6/9 at the start. After 10 days, he managed to read line 0.8 or 6/7.5… a mark improvement. At the last check ie about 20 days after, he is still reading line 0.8 well. Will certainly update if his eyesight can improve to 6/6.

CCKian, what brand of eye relax did you buy and how often does your son use everyday? Does your son put on glasses everyday? It’s really a big improvement just after 10 days of using the device. I read from some articles saying that eyes will get worse if we keep putting on glasses especially reading books in near distance because glasses prescribed is for seeing far distance. Not sure whether is it advisable to put on glasses when reading/writing or watching tv. Anyone have ideas when to let your children wear glasses or you will let them to wear all days. I should have brought my children for eye check one year ago. My advice to other mummies is bring your child for eye check up at 3 year old.
