Wondering should I send my children for Math Olympiad training? This is because I find that my sons love Math, especially the elder one, bought a Thinking Maths book and whenever I remember, I carry out with me when we go out. He'll initiate to do those questions inside. Also, he scored 95 over 100 for his SA2 and also teaches his little brother who is one year younger and me when we do not know how to solve those difficult math questions. He will be p4 next year. Any advice? As I find that the course fee at Maths hub is about $55 per lesson which is ex. But if it helps him in the long run, I willing to part $$. Can someone who has gone through all these advice me, please. :imdrowning:

That depend on what you want to achieve? To participate in MOS competition or to enhance his Math knowledge? If just out of his interest, think you can just buy MOS guide book from Popular for him to learn & practice. If for competition & his school is not providing MOS training, yes it will definitely help for him to train externally. GEP can't be trained, MOS definitely can!
This is just my personal opinion.

Thanks, flowermonaster for the advice. But still undecided what to do yet.

But GEP can be trained nowadays through some centres, for what I know. Anyway, my son did not go through the 2nd round and was not train before that. I’ll not be sending my younger one for GEP preparation too.

              Hi

I wonder if you can help, please?

My son will be undertaking IQ maths tests in 18 months (here in the UK - he is a P3 student)). To prepare him would the Terry Chew Olympiad Books be the right calibre of material, or are ther any other titles that would be recommended?

duno what is the purpose for IQ test? and also wondering can IQ be trained?
but think no harm to take a look at MO (there will be IQ types of questions in Terry Chew's books) and can google IQ question online...

The term \"IQ maths\" is actually quite ambiguous, but you may wana consider looking at some mensa books.

If I’m not wrong math olympiad has been conducted in various CC, though ad hoc basis nearing the competition date.

smo pte ltd is even conducting workshop for teachers/tutors/parents.
